Hi! My name is Ed and married to a wonderful woman named Cathy. We have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren...so far. Currently I'm the Director of Church and Community Ministries for a small Southern Baptist Church in Eastern NC. I've been a Christian since September 17th, 1977 and have worked bivocationally in the ministry since 1985.
My Christian experience is varied, mainly because the Lord has seen fit to teach me things progressively. Or maybe it just takes me longer than others to learn! My ambition is to follow Christ in the best way that I can. I must admit, however, that I struggle (like most of us) with self discipline. I'm glad I found "MyChurch", I've looked at a few of the more popular sites and didn't like what I saw. I've made friends in MyChurch already and am enjoying the experience and learning from others.
I also work part time in a music store so I've picked up a few pointers to help with my meager talent with the guitar. I like playing the simplist chords and singing (when no one is around) hymns and choruses. To me, that is personal worship.
| | Interests I am into digital photography. Recently, I was finally able to get a better camera and a computer with large storage to hold all my photos and videos. My wife, Cathy, loves to display family photos around our house and in many albums. She's also into scrapbooking, so her hobby and mine go hand in hand.
I also like woodworking. I've converted my garage into a small shop and enjoy making things for the house (last project was a double curio cabinet for my wife) and doing home improvement projects. Some day I'll really get good at it! | MoviesMy movie-going experiences are infrequent. When I go to a movie, I like to relax and view something light...like Schreck I-III. The last movie I saw with my wife was Kim's Island. I'd recommend it to the whole family! Of course I've seen all the Star Trek movies and have most of them in my collection. I'm eagerly waiting for the next Star Trek movie to come out (in November '08?) | MusicNot much on the music scene. I listen to NPR or the local talk station in my Dakota, oldies when I'm in my wife's car. I have CD's of Squirrel Nut Zippers, Big Daddy VooDoo, Country stuff and a few Christian artists, but that's not my norm. | BooksSince my ministry work started I've been encouraged to read stuff from the emerging/post-modern authors like Rob Bell, Mark Driscoll, Rick McKinley, etc. Don't get me wrong, I still like some other stuff, too, especially church history and biographies. | | Television I like Star Trek (I wish they'd make another TV series) and have the Star Wars DVD set. I also like (and I don't know why...it's very secular) Boston Legal. Maybe it's because William ("I'm Dennie Crane") Shatner is in it. But then again, I like Alan Shore, too. Maybe because I like the type of person that has personality and human problems but really comes off good in the pinch. Capt. Picard is like that, sort of. Once in a while, we get a glimpse into his personal life and how it deeply effects him, but when push comes to shove, he's the courageous and intelligent captain he should be. |
