I'm a wife and mom - a city girl learning about country life. It definitely has its ups and downs - but what I've learning about God surrounded by his creation can't be beat even though the big city had 3 grocery stores less than 5 minutes away and I only went to Walmart because I chose to not because it was the only option. :)
I have four children - a 16 yr. old daughter that lives with us and 3 grown sons who are way too far away and I miss terribly.
I married Charlie 4 years ago (wow time has passed quickly!) and moved from the bustle of Houston to the woods of East Texas. He wasn't too sure I'd adapt, but I think I surprised him.
Days with my mother are winding slowly to an end. As Christians, we all experience life/God through not only our experiences, but also those of the body - and we are blessed to learn from one another. As I realize my mother's 78 years on earth are about to change into a timeless relationship with her Father - reflection is so much a reality for my family. While we all have troubles in our human relationships - and we can focus on those at times - I was reminded again the role of my momma when we talked on the phone last week and she said (although she didn't have enough energy to even completely finish her sentences) "I am not hanging up this phone until you tell me what's bothering you." That's a mom - focusing on us even more than we do ourselves. My father shared a quote with me the other day that is so true - "When an old person dies, a library burns." There is not enough talking time left to answer all the questions or be reminded of the memories that she holds but I've forgotten.
I miss her already. I love you, Mom.
So what can you learn from me? Go see your mom. Ask her to share a life story she's kept to herself. Go through some old photos. Hold her hand. Brush her hair. Someday you ache to revisit that wonderful library of her life, memories, touch, and experiences.
Charlie and I both had a dream of providing a place for folks to come - for an evening or a weekend to experience God in his amazing nature - rebooting their spiritual selves among the trees, birds, ducks, geese, coyotes, stars, bonfires, good food and great fellership. We named our place Texas Eden because Eden was a place God connected physically with mankind - and we certainly feel that connection here.
I love quotes and one that describes our dream comes from Wayne Jacobson, Body life is where a local group of people chooses to walk together for a bit of the journey by cultivating close friendships and learning how to listen to God together. That is what we hope to provide for folks - a time of rest and pause on their journey - forming friendships and learning about God together.
Please visit our website Fellership.com for more of our spiritual journeys as well as pictures of some of our gatherings.
Interests
Reader, writer, conversator, learner. I love people and learning what makes us all tick. I really love learning about God through folks - especially those who challenge my comfort zone and show a side of Him I had not known before.
I have a 16 year old daughter Robin who is a poet, singer and deep thinker in the making. She's not quite as enraptured with the country life as I am. :) I also have 3 adult boys who stayed in Houston when we moved here and I miss them terribly.
I really love my job. Teaching Jr. High kids maybe takes a rather crazy person, and I have been called that many times. :) They are great kids.
I am a real outdoorsy gal and love physical work. We have 10 acres with plenty of work everywhere I look. :) I'm learning a lot about gardening - both vegetable and decorative. We also raise ducks and geese. What a joy that is! We incubate eggs each spring, and there is nothing like holding a flashlight up the an egg to see the little duckling moving around inside. About 2 days before hatching they peep and it's so much fun to listen. We all concentrate on the uniqueness of each human - but how about that EVERY egg has the potential of producing a unique duck - with a personality that is all his own? Amazing. God's expression is so strong in his creation!
This is an Indian Runner duckling we hatched. See how straight he stands? They are a very unique breed.
This is Annie, our Great Pyrenees, with an African gosling.
For the young @ heart :)

Movies
Five People You Meet in Heaven, What Dreams May Come, Last of the Mohicans, romantic comedies and an action movie now and then.
I like this little movie. :)
Music
I love all different kinds of music. Country - especially songs with a spiritual message. . . and aren't there a lot of those lately! Vineyard/Praise and worship music. Songs from my teenage years - good old folks like Lobo, Bread, Eagles, etc.
Books
Books are my passion. I have several in mid-finish right now. :) I have just finished Velvet Elvis and LOVED it - and am reading it again. Right now I'm reading A Heretic's Guide to Eternity. I"ll let you know when I'm finished. :)
I love non-fiction - either spiritually based stuff, (books on the Prophets, etc.) historical (mainly world history) or Christian spiritual giants from the past. I am also reading about the spiritual life of Thomas Jefferson and have definitely added him to the "people to meet" in the great by and by.
Luckily, Charlie and I share a love of similar types of books (usually) and so we have a lot of great conversating when we've finished reading.
Television
Heroes - love it! House, Trick my Truck, American Idol and any true life forensic show. I love shows about people.
Hi Alice, Just don't know how to say it a macho way, "Thank you for the wonderful birthday greeting". I'm at an age now where I really don't anticipate it from anyone except my closest family members....and that is quite alright. I have an aunt that always sends me a card. She has six kids of her own and at least 30 grandchildren. So, thank you for the small but significant gesture!
Linda and I are grandparents x2 since I last visited you folks. We are doing fine.....still in a chapter called The Wilderness. But we have found an Oasis there and life continues to take on a dynamic of meaning, grace and anticipation.
I visited your mom's page. What a blessing to still have her here. My mom passed on when I was in my early 20s. How different my life would have been if she had stayed... But- this is my life- just as it is -and in that- I'm content. (No self- pity allowed!) God knows what I need and what my children need.
My husband is from Texas- the Beaumont area- Vidor to be exact. We lived there together for 11 years. Well, I gave it a go but the weather was a killer. I'm from Washington state where it is rainy and 50 degrees almost year round so the Texas 95 degrees and 95 percent humidity was unreal! I had a hard time breathing, walking, and just plain living. Sounds like y'all have a nice place there and I'm glad you're able to enjoy it. I think the humidity is a bit lower where you are, isn't it?
Anyway, I'm out visiting today. You're probably at school though. This is my week end since my husband has Tue. and Wed. off.
I think I must have missed it- what subject do you teach?
