Greetings!  The peace and love of Jesus Christ be with you!

I'm Ben Bentrup, and I currently hail from Middletown, RI.  My wife, Amelia, and I are committed Catholic Christians who are seeking the kingdom of God.  We have two daughters and a newborn son (check out my photos!).  I work as a Spanish teacher out on Block Island, which is quite the adventure.  Check out my interests below.  If you're a friend, say hi!

Interests
I am deeply interested in the Bible, the Catholic Church, and Christian apologetics. I also dip my toes from time to time in the pro-life movement and the theology of the body (via JPII and Christopher West). Apart from religious interests, I have made a lifelong study of the game of chess, currently holding the rank of Expert (USCF 2050). I also passionately follow Red Sox baseball, the Indianapolis Colts of the NFL, and the Universities of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Louisville for college football and basketball. I don't have much exposure but also really enjoy table tennis and basketball (half-court only, too out of shape). I write poetry occasionally and love to memorize religious poetry and hymns, but I generally dislike what most people now pass off as poetry.
Movies
Note, the system can't find "Hans Christian Anderson" which probably would have ranked around #15 for me.
Music
Not in the database, but one of my all time favorites is a Time-Magazine series called Your Hit Parade: 1950s with many great early pop vocal tracks.
Books
The Catholic Study Bible published by Ignatius (currently covering about 80% of the New Testament) is far and away the best resource for lay Catholics wanting to delve deeper into scripture. Ample notes by Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch on almost every verse. I love all twenty Brother Cadfael Chronicles - they have a thrilling whodunit dressed up in a tale of innocent love and faithful Catholic theology, with some of the most beautiful prose ever.
Television
I don't like much t.v., except for sports. However, my wife and I enjoy reruns of older t.v. shows. I especially like The Dick van Dyke Show, The Andy Griffith Show, The Cosby Show, I Love Lucy, and (perhaps surprisingly) The A-Team.
