  Psalms 82:3
Jump to another verse
"Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. "
Psalms 82:1 A Psalm of Asaph. God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment:
Psalms 82:2 "How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? [Selah]
Psalms 82:3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.
Psalms 82:4 Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked."
Psalms 82:5 They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
Psalms 82:6 I say, "You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;
Psalms 82:7 nevertheless, you shall die like men, and fall like any prince."
Psalms 82:8 Arise, O God, judge the earth; for to thee belong all the nations!

Isn't it amazing how quotes or verses or other words of the wise seem to come from outta the blue, yet they seem to somehow reflect and/or relate to some issue in your life at exactly that moment?

This is the Word of the Lord.

"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke? (Isaiah 58:6)

How are we applying this in our everyday life? What do we do to "maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute"?

Our church decided to get involved in the work of Christians Against Poverty, a UK-based charity helping people crippled by debt. The charity works out a plan for them to help them become debt-free, and walks along them, lending a hand. We run Money Management courses and help debt-stricken families in our town every way we can.

Another charity we support is Compassion International. Many members of our congregation sponsor children in need of food, healthcare and education all over the world. The change in the life of these sponsored children is incredible.

Open Doors, Release International and Christian Solidarity Worldwide are only a few of the many other charities stepping into the gap, obeying the word of the Lord.

Being God's instruments in this world requires commitment, time and money. Are we willing to serve the Lord with everything we are and have?

"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. (James 1:22-25)

The Lord is my portion, says my soul."
"Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us." 2 Cor. 1:10

I really believe this is the churches job. There are heaps of ways to do this. Common church!

Love this verse!

This verse reminds me of all the aborted babies and future ones that are helpless and need us to fight for them constantly. They are the weak and alot of the time the fatherless. Keep them in your prayers.

As a public servant I am humbled and I ask the Lord for his mercies so that I can deliver!

I thank you Lord for when I was weak you gave me strength when I was fatherless you gave me adopted me,when I was poor and oppressed you gave me hope and the right to be called your son, and you inriched my soul, when I was weak and needy, you stood me up on the rock of salvationand delivered me from the hand of death,Glory to you my GOD my LORD for you tell me I can doe all things through Christ for he is greater in me than the world that is around me ,Amen.

Treat others like you would want to be treated.Worship Our almighty Father, anywhere, and, anytime.

Here is another scripture that is best left in its complete context (Psalms 82:1-8). It is a pre-advent prophetic warning from the FATHER & the SON to vain and unjust authorities against their abusive use of their power. Jehovah commands faithful stewardship of those has allowed authority over others, from head of household to heads of state. Thats why Wall Street withers from the pesticide of corporate greed and the White House must be the Right House in order for our nation to see times of social and material prosperity. "TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN, MUCH IS REQUIRED!"

Who will help them if we don't. There are plenty of people, who will help them and also take advantage of them only to leave them in worse shape that when they met them. They don't give they take. When we as Christians reach out, we can give a hand up in the name of Jesus, often Giving them freedom that they never had before. Yes there are times we don't see the results as we would have them, but we need to understand that God does the work and if we are in his will the result is his will. Ask God to use you for his Glory, then reach out. You may not see the result, God will.

New favorite verse!!!
Not everyone is a child of God, but you still show love and compassion towards them. Let the love of God show through your actions so that others may also see and become a part of God's family!

Love this
