I am thankful for those in harm's way who have taken the war away from our land so we can sleep at night without fear and my kids will not have to know the tragedies of war until it is their time to sacrifice. Many mornings I sit in my office, have devotions, and watch the sun rise over the Potomac. The view from my office overlooks DC with the Jefferson Memorial directly in front of me. This morning was another beautiful sunrise. A fall haze rests over the city and the trees peak out above the mist. The first indication of morning is the pastel pinks coming over the horizon and reflecting in the Potomac. The different hills and ridges take on slightly different colors as the light from the sun starts crawling across the land. Very beautiful. Then the fireball. The big red ball we call our sun slowly makes itself visible. As if it was on some sort of schedule or timetable, it pokes up above the horizon. The actual rising is very fast and the sun changes from firey red to orange to yellow and so bright it hurts your eyes to look at it. That transition happens in about 10 minutes. If you aren't watching it, you miss it.
