I probably shouldn't be writing this. I've told myself over and over not to get involved in this stuff, but it's a family problem. Families should be close - not bickering. Families should be loving - not condemning. MyChurch is a community comprised of different Christian faiths. Note, I said "Christian" faiths. Before signing up we all agree to comply with the Nicene Creed. One small but so important part of that is, " We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church." I can offer up this Scripture: 4:4 `There is' one body, and one Spirit, even as also ye were called in one hope of your calling; 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 4:6 one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in all. Yet, there are those within the family who won't heed this passage because they're too filled with hearts that just want to argue. Those who so adamantly know their way is the only way. It makes me wonder what happened to Jesus being the Way. I think it's time to stop the accusatory finger-pointing that's been so prevalent here on MyChurch. It's time the smack talk ended. Scripture is God-breathed and the Holy Spirit works in our lives in a myriad of ways. He may very well use different methods to bring us to His throne. I think He will use whatever it takes to bring us to Him. Frankly I grow weary of arguments over Bible translations, whether speaking in tongues is relevant for today, wine or no wine, etc. That's for the individual believer to decide by the leading of the Holy Spirit in his/her own life. We Southern Baptists cannot tell our Catholic brothers how to administer Communion. We cannot guide our Charismatic brothers on speaking in tongues. We cannot and should not because we are not God. He alone works in our lives in His own way. It's time to stop the divisive nature here. Surely, the Holy Spirit is grieved by our unloving words toward our Christian brothers and sisters. It's time to stop the name calling toward those who may not be led by the Father the same way we have. After all, God is eternal, loving, faithful, holy, omnipotent, just, incomprehensible (read Job 38-41), merciful, etc, etc, etc. But, I save the one description of God that probably most suits this: God is long-suffering. He'd have to be to deal with the likes of us. |
