I have been doing a lot of reading lately (big surprise) and came across a few things I did not know. And being the "know-it-all" my wife acuses me of being, I found these very interesting indeed.
A young girl in New York was denied member status in the Catholic Church after being deemed "unworthy". What made her unworthy? She is allergic to wheat gluten. And since the Communion wafers are made from unleaven wheat, she can not eat the wafer. Her parents asked for a dispensation to allow her to use a rice wafer. The Catholic Diocese would not allow it and said if she could not use the "official" wheat bread (ie. wafer) that Christ used, she could not partake of Holy Communion and was therefore unwothy of membership.
10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
The Mormon Church teaches that God was once a man like us who attained godhood status, and that the men of the Mormon Church will one day become gods themselves and be given their own planet to rule over and to populate with their "eternal wife". This "eternal wife" may not be the woman they married here on Earth, and her role is to help the amn populate the planet he will be given.
20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth: 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me;
There are churches who teach that only 144,000 people will get to go to heaven with God. The only way to be a part of that group is to earn it here on earth by doing lots of good deeds or by either donating or raising large amounts of money for the church. It is their belief that they earn the right to go to heaven, and that is why they work so hard. So when the Jehovah's Witnesses want to sell you their tracts, they are trying to earn their right.
14:6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Just a bit of food for thought this week. Be thankful for the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ that was FREELY given for our sins. 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
