| | Day 23 Current mood: energetic Category: Religion and Philosophy The reading for day 23 was 2Samuel 13:1-22:51. I'm going to focus on chapter 22 for today's entry. Chpater 22 is a song of David "when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul." Read chapter 22, please! We seem to forget what kind of God we serve, and we need to remember who God is and who we are and are not. God is a rock, a fortress, a sheild and horn of salvation, a stronghold, my refuge and savior. All these things God is to his people. In verses 8-16, however, we see a fearsome God who is powerful beyond reckoning and who displays that power against his enemies and the enemies of his people. "He shot arrows and scattered the enemies, bolts of lightning and routed them." Again, as we did last time, we see a warrior king who destroys those who oppose him but gives favor to those he loves. "It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect...He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze." Read verses 38-43 and tell me what you think of them. Read verses 47-51 and tell what you think of the "God who avenges", do we still serve the God who "gives his king great victories" and "puts the nations under me"? Is God still a warrior or has he hung up his sword and shield? Aren't we called to fight against principalities and powers, etc.? Aren't we to reflect his character? WWJD? "You exalted me above my foes; from violent men you resuced me. Therefore I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing praises to your name." Amen. |
