| God Has Plans for You |
|
| |
29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
In Jeremiah 29:11 the prophet assures the people of God that He would restore them once again to their homeland at the end of the 70 years. Therefore, he speaks of the plans that he had for them. Likewise, God has plans for us as well. I would like to briefly look at God’s plans for us. God’s Plans are Known Plans First, God’s plans are known to Him, but may or may not be known to us. God uses the word “I” referring to himself, which implies that God knows the plans that he had for Israel and conversely Israel didn’t. The fact is we may be like Israel in that God obviously knows the plans that he has for us, but we seem to be looming somewhere in the dark, waiting for a word that will give us some direction. If you are going through a period of bewilderment, not knowing what direction to go or where to turn, remember this: God knows what His plans are for you and he wants to reveal them. We know from the text that God wanted to reveal His plans to Israel since he inspired Jeremiah to write what he did. Similarly, He desires to show you His will, but it’s up to you and me to seek Him for it. God’s Plans are Eternal Plans Secondly, God’s plans are eternal plans, thus they are eternally conceived. Throughout eternity, there never was a time where he didn’t have your current situation in mind. Think of that! God is not taken by surprise; he knows. In Genesis, God knew that Adam and Eve were going to sin. This is why the Bible says Jesus was the lamb slain before the foundation of the world. He wasn’t taken back. The same is true in your situation. This truth liberates you and me from the fear of what might happen. We serve a God who has everything under control. God’s Plans are Continual Plans Third, “The Hebrew literally reads, ‘God knows the plans that I am planning for you.’ They are eternal plans, plans that he is presently planning.” In your current situation, God is currently situating circumstances that will lead to the fulfillment of His will. You may say what if I miss God’s will in a certain decision, then what? Some people live with the fear that if they mess up on one little point when it comes to doing the will of God, they have blown it. They suffer from the “paralysis of analysis.” This means that when you become so afraid of missing God’s will they you’re paralyzed with the fear of making the wrong decision. I believe if we are seeking God’s will, He will lead us. Let’s say, hypothetically, that you do make the wrong decision. You took a job that wasn’t God’s perfect will or you married the unbelieving spouse they every one of your Christian friends told you not to marry. Your life is not over. In spite of a wrong decision, God still plans to use you. He is currently planning things for you to do right now. You are deeply loved and fully pleasing in His site and He plans to use you right where you’re at.

"I believe if we are seeking God’s will, He will lead us." Of this I'd like to say I have no doubt. I take a great deal of comfort i the fact that even while we were sinners Jesus died for us. I wish I were better able to flip from scripture to scripture to make a point. There are a couple of phrases I believe in the Psalms that basically sais that as many as the sands on the desert of the thoughts the Almighty has for us, and that we a wonderfully made. Actually I wasn't going to find those scriptures to make a point it's just that they have been on my heart As I read this BLOG knowing that God put eternity on our heart there are I believe actually many references to Eternity. 6:16 Thus saith Jehovah, Stand ye in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way; and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls: but they said, We will not walk `therein'. 6:17 And I set watchmen over you, `saying', Hearken to the sound of the trumpet; but they said, We will not hearken. I think of course what is often translated as Ancient is actually the word Olam which actually means like from eternal to eternal.
Of course infinity was a wort that I struggled with in mathematics. and in the Bible I struggle with eternal. My mind thinks it has to grasp something before it will give my soul permission to believe it.
Well this was a way longer comment than what I was wanting to make. But I like a post that engages my heart and my mind at the same time. |

Pastor Tim, I feel extreme comfort in knowing that God has plans for me. 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. The trouble with this passage seems to be many interpret a health/wealth message in it. This comes from reading "you" as designating the believer today. To do this we also need to broaden welfare, future and hope to include blessings post mortem! God doesn't necessarily have riches and health in everyone's future plans here on earth! (I know you weren't saying this, your blog just brought to my mind others saying it.) Great blog! ~mike |

| Mike, I totally agree. One of the problems with interpreting Scripture is that we read into it our own cultural conditioning. We live in a capitalist society where the economy is fairly good, so the properity message will work here in the US. However, try to preach that message in a third world country. It doesn't work. Great point! |

Thanks Pastor Tim--I've been struggling with "Have I messed up God's awesome plan for my life with doing dumb things?" God encourages me today that He is still on the throne--to not give up, but surrender everything to Him. God bless. |

| I personally am thankful that God knows His plans for me and I don't. He has gotten me out of some fine messes, and ended up doing great things. I know that will always be what happens, even though I don't know what will happen in my life. He knows it all, and my life is in His hands. |

In spite of a wrong decision, God still plans to use you. He is currently planning things for you to do right now. You are deeply loved and fully pleasing in His sight and He plans to use you right where you’re at.
This is sooooo important here! God can take ANYTHING and make it beautiful and towards His great purpose. Even in our weakness (and ESPECIALLY in our weakness!!) he makes us strong and can use us. He comes to us where we are and draws us back into His will. Amen to that!! |
