8:26But an angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza: the same is desert. 8:27 And he arose and went: and behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship; 8:28 and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah. 8:29 And the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. 8:30And Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? 8:31 And he said, How can I, except some one shall guide me? And he besought Philip to come up and sit with him. 8:32Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before his shearer is dumb, So he openeth not his mouth: 8:33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: His generation who shall declare? For his life is taken from the earth. You gotta love a guy who takes a scripture break!
8:34And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other? 8:35 And Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached unto him Jesus. 8:36 And as they went on the way, they came unto a certain water; and the eunuch saith, Behold, `here is' water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? 8:37`And Philip said, If thou believest with all thy heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.' 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. You gotta love this fella, Oh looks there's some water lets get to baptizin' . No let me check my schedule, no I haven't got a thing to wear, no I just washed my hair. No I'll have my answering machine call your answering machine and we'll do lunch babe. Simply Oh there's some water lets Geterdone. Obedience Like that is something to shoot for,
Oddly enough Baptizin' made it thru spell check but geterdone didn't |

| Hi, Dave--in A.A. I like your spelling of Git-R-Done (that you spell it "geterdone"). That makes more sense--that's how the phrase sounds to me. Your blog today reminds me that we should always be ready for a divine appointment. |

what doth hinder me to be baptized? So many answers *possible* to that. . . might lose my social standing. . .might lose my job. . .family might turn against me. . . lose friends, influence, clients. . . or lose reputation, influence But for this Eunuch everything else is stripped away and nothing else matters as his statement " I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God" becomes his focus and his life. And so he gets baptized--how awesome is that??? |

Let's not ignore the fact that Phillip was an example of obedience as well. If he had not obeyed the Angel of the Lord, this Eunuch would have never arived at his divine appointment. It not only takes some one who is being drawn by the word to be obedient but it also takes those of us, like Phillip, who are seasoned Christians called by God to usher those in to the word. Like the Eunuch, he needed Phillip to translate the word and to do some baptizn'.
Great scripture Dave! |
