| Don't Let It Go |

I have read many things over the past few weeks that have left me a bit shocked. Much of it has had to do with people who claim to be Christians but put so little value in the Bible. So, yes, this will be another blog about the Bible! Many Christians seem to be obsessed right now with prayer and worship. These are important and went ignored for too long. But sometimes in shifting our focus in certain areas, we lose our focus in other areas. My son used to be "addicted" to Thomas the Tank Engine. In fact, as I write this, he is downstairs playing with his trains. However, it has been weeks since he has touched them. Why have they been ignored? "Cars." Yes, Lightning McQueen has overshadowed Thomas. Let's keep praying and let's worship God with all we've got. But don't forget about the Bible. I was born again when I was 14 years old and the Lord brought me to a church that taught the Bible and upheld it as perfect and without error. That was one of the greatest times of my life. I went off to Bible College where some of the professors didn't refute the perfection of the Bible, but they raised doubts. Interestingly enough, my college years were some of the worst of my life. So, what is the point of all my rambling? Whatever you do, hold tight to the perfection of the Bible. Pick your Bible up and thank God for it! Don't give in to the skeptics. Don't give in to the claims that holding such a view of the Bible is naive. "For all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness." (2 Timothy 3:16). 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: |

| I think u make a good point. A balance of everything God has for us is good. I mean I don't personally like how one place u go to has this and that, but completely leaves out the HolySpirit. another place has another thing , but leaves out God. another leaves out Jesus altogether and has swung over to current events.
I think if the WHOLE body participates .. we will begin to see the Whole portion. bless ya Gail |

| Thank you for bringing out the importance of relying on the Word of God. Afterall, when it comes right down to it, what else is there? What else could possibly be as important as, Thus saith the Lord. Everything else is just vain babbling. God Bless you. |

| I was thinking about your writing that "My son used to be "addicted" to Thomas the Tank Engine. " I think many of us get addicted to what drives us emotionally or to anything that gratifies what we feel is a "need" we have.
Sometimes that includes worship. We feel good when we worship. We are to worship God and thereby it should be done for Him and Him alone as adoration, exhaltation, exclaiming Him as Holy, Righteous, and full of Glory! What happens, is we make worship about us. It becomes how we feel, how we react, how others view us, how warm & fuzzy worship can become. I think we sometimes confuse those feelings as the way the Holy Spirit makes us feel. Sometimes that may very well be but we should be careful not to become ecstatic and depend on those feelings as some type of "Wow! am I close to God when I worship."
I feel close to Him as I read His Word and He reveals to me some type of Truth, maybe He convicts me of some habit or situation I need to change. He opens doors for me and closes others through revealing Himself in His Word. He shines light that exposes things for what they are. His Word brings wisdom and knowledge that only He can provide. I love these verses from Psalm 19:
7 The law of the LORD is perfect,
reviving the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
To know His Word is trustworthy and to realize that, I, a simple man, can be made wise through his Word, gives me pleasure and comfort. These verses refer to His revealed will, His law, His words of authority which I believe is the entire Bible. His words help us in making everyday decisions and dealing with all the situations, trials, and hurdles we face everyday. This is cause to Worship Him, YES! It is also cause to bring us to his Word daily and study and know Him through that revealed and living Word! . |

| Hey, w/o the Word there would be no Christianity. I feel the same as you, it's all about our daily Bread! ~mike |

Hi, Spooksam. I suspect I would fit into the category of people you're writing about, so I thought I should offer the counterpoint. I can remember feeling some confusion when I first began to hear that the Bible didn't just fall down from heaven. It shakes us to hear something that seems to contradict what we have believed all our lives, and our first reaction is to rebuke the messenger. As I continued to study and learn more about the Bible, however, the new understanding didn't weaken my faith, but strengthened it. I, and I suspect your Bible College teachers, value the Bible greatly and respect it as the Word of God. Do you think, though, in our 21st century culture, with such a need for tangibility, that some people might worship the Book more than they worship the God it points us to? If so, would that not be a form of idolatry? And I'm sure you and I agree that the world would be a more wonderful place if more people would become obsessed with prayer and true worship. I'm glad we have both, but if I had to choose between being able to read the Bible or being able to pray and worship God, I'd definitely choose God! Thanks for a blog that sparks dialogue, Spooksam! Blessings to you! A sister in Christ

| “I will bow down toward Your holy temple and will praise Your name for You have exalted above allthings Your name and Your Word.” Psalm 138:2 God seems to highly value His Word. Without the Word, what is left to make sure our prayer and worship are pleasing to Him? In Acts 2:42, the first thing mentioned that the early church devoted themselves to was the Apostle's teaching. Prayer is the last one mentioned. Worship is mentioned in passing later in the passage. Just a few things to think about. Thank you for sharing your heart. |
