Interesting post Sue! I would like to dispute the last statement you made, but at the moment I'm not sure I can! ~mike

Great post Sue!  I have had to eat a piece of humble pie a time or two myself.  It is very hard to do!  I would much rather eat pecan or coconut cream pie!

On more than one ocassion I have had to tightly grip my fork, gently unflod the napkin and tuck it into my shirt, and partake of piece of that good old humble pie. Good post Sue

I think it tastes more like toe cheese.  Kind of sticks to the gums you know...I guess it's how you make it.  Perhaps the world appears to forgive better than the church b/c of the whole Rom 7 issue.  When there is no pressure to do something, it seems to almost be done unintentionally.  But when the fire gets turned on, everything seems to get burned.  Forgiveness seems to become an issue when you realize you have to do it.  I don't know.

Yummy, yummy humble pie!  It's a huge part of my daily diet. It's a little easier to swallow with laughter. :)  I'm one of those fortunate people who take comfort in that picture, Sue. Gee, at least it counts for something, right?

I think that if the world is forgetting wrong doings easier than the church, it's probably most likely because the church has higher (and often unrealistic) expectations of its brothers and sisters.

I don't know about other congregations, but ours is made up of very real, sinful people!  :-P

There's a reason the words "grace and peace" show up so often in the N.T. :-)

Great reminder, Sue!

Mike,  We can certainly agree that we disagree, but from where I am standing that final statement is much more true than any of us Christians would like to admit.  I have seen it way too many times to know.  But I think Jen hit the nail on the head.  Loved your comment girlfriend!  Our expectations are often way too high and very unrealistic.  Patrick also made a very good point.  The world does it without thinking, but we Christians probably think too much!  Thank you all for your comments and stars. You are a constant source of encouragement.  Love you all!!

Sue, your blog hits to an important aspect of christian life in that we are simultaneously both Saint and Sinner; as Luther used to say.

Yes we make mistakes.  And, hopefully we are quick to recognize that.  It's also true that we have a stronger effort for accountability than much of the world.  It's the desire to have people be accountable that often points out the mistakes in others.  Unfortunately, we often look "out there" and don't look enough "in here."

It's also been said that Christian soldiers are the only ones who leave the wounded on the field or go back to finish them off.  We can be cruel to ourselves.  It's a delicate balance between asking for accountability and loving unconditionally.
