That is precisely why I usually keep mine short! hahaha!

That's pretty much what I do.

Hi Jeff,

I guess I would have to agree with you. Initially I look at the topic. Then I check the length. Sometimes I just don't want to read long, drawn out blogs. Especially if they are not double-spaced or paragraphed appropriately.

Often times I read the blogs that have been commented on a number of times by other readers.

But one thing I might suggest for some. Is a text-reader. For those of you who are not familiar, there are several text-to-speech programs available online for free. This way instead of reading long passages of text, you can simply copy and paste the text into the program application window and listen to it.

Granted, most of the free versions speak with a computer, or robotic voice. But you can certainly understand them. One of the great features I like is that you can speed up the speech to say, three times normal speaking speed, and listen "chipmunk" style.

Just a suggestion, but it does work and it allows you to search or browse through other things while listening.

The one I use can be found HERE

Very cool link Michael, thanks for sharing that. What an intriguing idea!!

Mike: It will crack you up listening to some things! It does a very good job in most cases but some typos come out sounding pretty unusual.

I like listening to scripture at like 4 times normal speed!

Nothing like hearing the entire book of Romans in say, 10 minutes!

I read all the people's blogs that I am subscribed to first...those are ones that I have discovered usually have interesting things that they write about, and almost always their blogs are informative and interesting.  Then I will peruse some of the other ones that people on my friends list have written to see if any catch my attention.  Then I usually hit the explore button, and any with a lot of stars or a lot of comments, I try to read.

A few words??? That's not short, that's downright punctuated!  lol

Here's a question I'd like to hear some responses on. Define "short".

I normally can handle two or three short paragraphs unless I am really entrenched!

Hate to get off topic, but speaking of short.......

I was listening to a teacher regarding long, repetitive prayers. He was reminding his listeners that if we pray in faith, long prayers are not neccesary. Then he said that the following is his favorite prayer:

"Help"

Speaking of long prayers, I must confess.....

Last evening I was at the bedside of an elderly woman who was in pain and could not get to sleep. I offered to pray with her, then I deliberately prayed a looonnngg monotone prayer in an attempt to put her to sleep. This often works with my wife, although then it is unintentional. Lord, forgive me?

Mike, that's just not right!

I kid my pastor once in a while and say, "You know what?, your preaching puts me to sleep!"

After gleaming over the stunned look on his face, I tell him, "No, I meant often I lay in bed and listen to your MP3 messages until I fall alseep!" Big difference!

I am a reader by nature, But on this site I have learned to allow the Spirit to lead me because sometime people will put up anything, and after you have read the things that they write you pretty much know what your  going to get, or you start to understand that all of them are not edifying. And than you have those "Like some of mine"LOL! are way to long, and you don't want to read it because after reading it you are confused. And than you have some who only seek a star! Just my thoughts.

Has anyone tried "README" yet?

I have to admit, longer ones are easy to skip over, even if the topic is interesting.  I love to read, but I don't enjoy reading on the internet very much and don't have a lot of time to spend on it, so I'm kinda picky about which blogs I go to.  Friends first, then by titles that interest me.

I try to keep mine to one page or less (on Microsoft Word).  Occasionally I go over that and then have to decide what, if anything, I'm willing to edit out.  And sometimes I just pitch the whole thing because I can't figure out what to edit!!  :-)

This may be a stupid question, but is there any purpose anymore in "subscribing" to someone's blog?  I mean, all your friends' blogs are listed in the "What's Fresh" section, so what good does it do to subscribe to particular ones?  Am I missing something...?

Michael, what's readme?

Jeff, my latest blog was short, because of YOU!! (lol)

Then there are longer blogs that are WELL worth the read, such as Miss Jen's above. Jen, subscribing still puts em all in that subscriptions listing, and sometimes things cycle off your What's Fresh b4 you get a chance to see it. So yes, I still appreciate subscribing to blogs. (I'm subscribed to about 100 - is that overkill?)

Mike-You are a blogging hero. Makes sense to do some research and not just think everybody is going to just cuddle up with our messages. I think readme is what that text to voice Michael was talking about.

Mike:

README is the link you commented on earlier. It's a text-to speech program.
