I guess the "moral" of the story is to heed God's advice over ANY man's words, no matter how prominent or positionally powerful that they might be... Joel

He didn't question the old prophet. He didn't ask God if it would be ok. He just accepted what he said to be true because he was a prophet. How important is discernment to God if you even have to test everything His prophets say? I think this is why Paul commended the Bereans :)

I agree with all comments. I would just add Paul's admonishment in I Cor. 14 for us today is to let 2 or 3 speak and then judge according to the Spirit. We shouldn't take lightly, "...the spirit of the prophets be subject to the prophet." Too many churches today have only one voice (from the pulpit) NOT 2 or 3, and no one "judging" or even having an opportunity to do so. Charlie
