We have become quite obsessed in recent years with the fast that God is our heavenly Father - our "Daddy."  Jesus is our best Friend.  He is our Father.  He is our Friend.  But I do not find a place in the Bible where the angels join together in one voice to cry, "Loving, loving, loving is the Lord God our Buddy!"  Instead, the fall down and cry, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty!"  Last night I read in Exodus 20:20, "Do not be afraid, God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning."  That's odd - "do not be afraid," but "the fear of God will be with you."  As God's children, we do not need to fear His wrath, but we must have a holy sense of awe and wonder at His power and majesty.  Our heavy focus on Jesus as our Friend seems to threaten what Moses is saying here.  We have lost the fear of God from our hearts.  Now Christians think it is OK to sleep around, get drunk, believe what they want to believe, and do whatever they want to do.  Moses said that the fear of God would be with the people TO KEEP THEM FROM SINNING.  Granted, show me a perfect Christian and I'll show you a liar.  But we have lost our urgency to grow in holiness and righteousness.  Our "Buddy" understands our weaknesses.  But a holy God commands and deserves more.
