What or who do you think is the top American Idol?
We have been talking about using the 10 commandments in our witnessing to simply show people what sin is(Romans 7:7) Some have said that we don't need to do that. 1 Timothy1: 8 shows us that the law is useful if used properly.
1:8 We are conscious that the law is good, if a man makes a right use of it,
Sin is lawlessness. 3:4 Every one who commits sin is guilty of lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.
So many people have been taught to just blanketly share Rom 3:23 or even worse to just share the love of Jesus. Please read Peter's gospel in Acts 2:40 and Acts 3 as he specifically points out people's sin and 3000 and then 5000 were added to their number.
The second commandment is that you should not bow down to any idols. Again God is prioritizing worship. He is jealous for our worship and has built us to be drawn to bow and give full homage to someone. When I first heard about idols my mind went to the totem poles that I would see on Gilliagan's Island. We don't have have all those fetishes they have in other countries right, wrong? When I was a kid I used to have my football idol, OJ Simpson on my wall(yeh he's right up there to be worshipped). We have sports idols, hollywood idols, business idols. We have teenagers awestruck and fainting in the presence of Michael Jackson or Elvis Presley. We even have one of top shows called the American Idol(how about rock star Billy Idol)
Most of our idols are in our mind. Here's how you can share this commandment to humble your proud listener and show them they have broken the 2nd commandment and need your Jesus.
Who is your God? Is he a god of love and mercy who would never judge anyone and would never cast anyone into hell? If that's your god, then your right. Your god couldn't cast anyone into hell because he doesn't exist. He's a figment of your imagination. You've created a god in your mind to comfort you and that suits your sin. You may call it "personal belief" but God calls it idolatry. It's the oldest sin in the book, and the Bible warns that idolaters will not inherit the kingdom of heaven.(Rev 21:8)
