It’s a sad day when anyone leaves the church, but especially when it is a person, a couple, or even a family that seems to have so much potential to serve with the rest of us in this mission. I get bummed out even though I learned long ago people will be coming and going.My natural human reaction is “what could we have done differently to keep these ‘good’ people.” No sooner had the thought (recently)crossed my mind, God swooped in to remind me that we are not here for the “good” people. Jesus came to seek and save the lost (it’s in red letters). If indeed we are followers of Christ, we should be about His business and that is seeking and saving the lost. Engaging the culture we live in is often messy, and I (we, for those that are along for the ride) have to get over the fact that this mission may not be for everybody (and that doesn’t make them ‘bad’ people). If we are more concerned with attracting and keeping “churched” people, then perhaps we’ve slowed down in our formerly aggressive efforts in reaching the “un-churched.” This was a cup-check for me (for those that know what that means…if not, ask a little-league baseball catcher). God forgive us. I want to encourage you to re-start your efforts in inviting (even bringing) your lost friends to church, small group, youth, etc Yes, they may hear occasional messages about disciples or things they don’t quite understand; but those questions can lead to the Truth. More importantly, they need to see you living a “changed” life because of what Jesus Christ has done for you. Nothing changes lives like a changed life.

I know you know that already, but it never hurts to be reminded.
