Our ancestors in Egypt     were not impressed by the LORD's miraculous deeds.     They soon forgot his many acts of kindness to them.     Instead, they rebelled against him at the Red Sea. Even so, he saved them—     to defend the honor of his name     and to demonstrate his mighty power… Then his people believed his promises.     Then they sang his praise. Psalm 106:7, 8, 12

Encouragement for Today

This whole psalm is a litany of all the ways God's people rebelled against him, and what God did to judge them—but also to rescue them. Read the chapter, and meditate on the great things God's done for the sake of his people, even though they were slow to praise him for his mighty deeds. He demonstrated his love for them over the course of centuries … until finally, he sent his Son. When we believe God's promises and sing his praises, we give God what he seeks: our devotion.
