| Telling the Story |
|
| |
We are people who love stories. We like novels. We like TV programs. We like gossip (face up now!) And, most importantly, we love the stories in the Bible.
When I was small, I heard the stories about Adam and Eve, Jonah, Noah, David, Moses and Jesus. As I grew older I heard stories about Paul, Solomon, Issac, Abraham, Peter and the Apostles. These stories needed more attention because there was deeper meaning. It wasn't until I was quite a bit older that I began to hear "ideas."
Children do not understand the concepts of a electricity being converted to heat on a stove and the effects that it may have on human tissue. However, they clearly understand that it will hurt! It's a simple thing to tel them about a boy or girl who got too close and got hurt. Fables are built this way from Aesop to the Brothers Grimm. Who doesn't recall some story that they heard even years ago?
We are a people rich in stories and yet we seldom tell one another about our own stories. Recently, a number of people have been sharing their stories on MyChurch. In some circles its called a personal testimony; in others, your individual journey. Can you tell it? Do you like to hear it from others?
Well, I've delayed writing anything because several other people have been sharing and I did not want to detract from what they were sharing. It's my turn. In the next posting I'll begin by turning back the clock - over 40 years. |

Hi Gene! Welcome back! Good to turn clocks in every one's lives. Would love to go back to our child hood days and dwell in the memories? What kind of stories are expected here? Any how I would like to tell a small 'story' (This is not a story but some thing happened real). Some time back I was sitting in one of the project office ( - away from civilisation - meaning away from people's inhabitation-) and was working. In frot of me was a truck parked and a truck driver was sitting in his wheel while the others were off loading the stuff he had brought. It was one cool, early morning, with a breeze which was so refreshing. Suddenly this truck driver appeared before me and demanded some water from me. As the project site was away from the town or village, we always carry our water. I had placed a bottle of water on my table, which was noticed by the truck driver. On hearing his voice, I just looked up and thought for a second that water is a precious commodity and I directed him to take water from the next room, rather giving him the water that I had. Immediately on seeing the truck driver moving to the next door for water, I felt ashamed very much, that I did not share the water that I had. I recollected the teachings of Jesus Christ "Love your neighbour as your self" and found that I failed miserably in the test. Also I remembered how Jesus gave water of life freely for all. This incident made me ponder and makes me to deep in to the teachings of Jesus Christ. |

Ragland, that is a great story. It really brings home the idea of being "our brother's keeper" and showing the grace of God to others.
Stay tuned, Carol. |

Oh good! I am on the edge of my seat with anticipation. I loved reading Glenn's story and now I get to know Gene. These stories bless me so much knowing that God has worked in each of us individually. I just attended INFUSE in Dallas where Dr. Jay Strax (I hope I spelled it correctly) said that God gives personal vision. Our interaction with God is not "off the rack" but it is "Custom Fit" and "Taylor Made". He was talking about our personal vision, but it also applies to our walk thorugh life. It is amazing that God can be so personally walk and lead us in unique ways. It is not hard for me to imagine a God that created the universe and by his power, maintains the order of the Universe. What is amazing to me is that this God with all power will care enough to have a personal relationship with me!!!! Think of it! With me, and He knows me better than I know myself. WOW!!! I look forward to hearing from you my brother. Thanks for sharing. Your brother in Christ, Brent |

Lara, Mike, Brent, Joey,. . . Thanks for your support.
The lesson last week for the class I lead at church was about telling our stories. I figured it was about time I put something in writing and not just verbalized it. |

Gene,
I too look forward to your writings... many may not be aware, but our personal journeys are tools for ministry. When we share... we allow others to reflect on their own lives... and sometimes maybe even help others to avoid mistakes that we have made.
