I know this is probably the most used piece of scripture in the BIBLE, yup it seems like you can't even watch the Colts beating the Bears in the Superbowl with out seeing some one waving it in the end zone as the Colts go on to be World Champions.
But I gotta bring it up one more time. 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. What could God ever ask of me that would even come close. I get to trade Blindness for Sight, Darkness for Light, Hate for Love, but still I find myself struggling and can certainly see why Paul waxed so perplexed in Roman 7.
7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 7:15 For that which I do I know not: for not what I would, that do I practise; but what I hate, that I do. 7:16 But if what I would not, that I do, I consent unto the law that it is good. 7:17So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me. 7:18For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me, but to do that which is good `is' not. 7:19 For the good which I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I practise. 7:20But if what I would not, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me. 7:21 I find then the law, that, to me who would do good, evil is present. So that we shouldn't have much trouble finding something to be grateful for especially after we find out . 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus. 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death. 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 8:4 that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 8:5 For they that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 8:6 For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace: 8:7 because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be: 8:8 and they that are in the flesh cannot please God. So maybe I can take a deep breath rather than signaling the fellow in the car that just cut me off that in my book they are number 1. Just maybe I can understand how some one can be worn out after hitting the Mall.
Maybe with the commercialism that I've been struggling with I should find additional solace in the message that the angels had for the Shepherds the day Jesus' was born.
2:8 And there were shepherds in the same country abiding in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock. 2:9 And an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 2:10 And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people: 2:11 for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. 2:12 And this `is' the sign unto you: Ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger. 2:13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 2:14 Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men in whom he is well pleased. 2:15 And it came to pass, when the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing that is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. 2:16 And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger. 2:17 And when they saw it, they made known concerning the saying which was spoken to them about this child. I'm not much for Gossip but I'm sure glad that word made it around the planet and through 2000 or years. That at just the right time for me it pierced my heart.
It was even persistent as I had to go through what I had to go through.
I really lake how the translation in the Message puts it.
6-8Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn't, and doesn't, wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we hadn't been so weak, we wouldn't have known what to do anyway. We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.
So after my God and My Savior have gone through so much for me not to mention the Holy spirit wandering when I might catch a clue. As well as all those who gave there all so we can worship in our own language and according to the dictates of our conscience. Those who laid there lives down so we can do our part to remember this is one nation under God. Oh Yeah hopefully many nations under God.
Merry Christmas, and for those who to the time to read this BLOG thanks and may God Bless. |

First, you are grossly mistaken if you think the Colts are going on to be the World Champions this year. Second, I love your introspection as you write your blogs. It causes me to self evaluate too. I really enjoyed this blog.

| Wonderful post brother! So often we want to get into the deep things of God and we lose focus on the building blocks of a relationship with God. |

| Dave--your blog reminds me that it's all about God. He does it all. He sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins, even when we were still in our sin and rebellion. Who can fathom His love? His Holy Spirit works in us to help us to turn to Him and be saved in the first place. All He asks is that we take that small first step of faith and trust Him. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ--in Him we have the victory! |

Yes Dave, I too appreciate your introspection, and your sharing it with us. Thanks for wrestling with scripture publicly, that we may share in your insights.
And I'm just happy the Ravens won a superbowl before the Colts did, I take solace in that! |
