Here is my correspondence with a person working with promoting the movie "Noëlle".
Greetings,
I am a Catholic Christian and my wife and I have a podcast. We talk about movies, music, and anything else pertaining to our everyday lives. I just went and saw the movie "Bella" in Cleveland and thought it was absolutely beautiful! If you have never heard of "Bella" it is about a girl who gets pregnant and is considering an abortion. The movie is done in such a beautiful way that I was crying half the movie. I haven't cried like this since "The Passion of The Christ".
I saw your preview for this movie "Noëlle" while flipping through the Christian channels. I have a few questions about the movie:
• Why did you decide to make the main character a Catholic priest?
• Will I as a Catholic Christian be offended by this film? (don't worry I plan to watch the movie and make an honest critique of the film).
• Are all the Catholic characters in the film portrayed as stereotypes? By this I mean are they portrayed as drunks, ignorant of Scripture, and all the other stereotypes that non-Catholic Christians sometimes have of Catholic Christians? When I was a non-denominationlist I heard some comments that were simply untrue and generalizations of Catholic Christians. I would be very disappointed if this film were to portray Catholics in this way.
I would love to spread the word about this movie as I have been the movie "Bella", but I can not promote a movie that portrays Catholic Christians in a negative and simply dishonest way. I hope that you will e-mail me back with any more information about the movie.

Hey Joshua The movie is wonderful and one of the BIG catholic organizations has gotten behind it. It is about human nature no mater what denomination you are. The producer, star, writer & director David Wall explains alot in his production notes which I have put on the site I created for promoting the film. Also Matt Crouch has his message about the film there. They are found when you the first link for nolle in promotional tools. There are also behind the scenes footage etc and all the video codes etc. Thanks for helping Daryn Hinton
Thanks for the info,
Which are the "BIG" catholic organizations that have gotten behind it? I take it wasn't the Catholic League?
Here is an article about Noëlle that expresses some of the very concerns that I have about this film. When I saw the preview I too saw some of the things mentioned in the of the Catholic Church. Which is why I asked the questions that I did in my previous message.
I think I'll wait until it comes out on DVD and NetFlix it.
God Bless,
Josh from Ohio
If you've seen either one of these movies then I'd love to hear what you thought of either of these films. I highly recommend "Bella"! I'd also like to mention to you another film that is in select cities called "Father G and The Homeboys". I haven't seen it yet, but you can read a review of it here. |
