| | Day 27 Current mood: astounded Category: astounded Religion and Philosophy The reading for day 27 was 2Kings 5:1-15:38. This portion of scripture begins with the story of Naaman. I think the most interesting thing about this that I had not ever noticed before was in verse 1 of chapter 5 where it says "He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the Lord had given victory to Aram." Was he highly regarded by the people of Aram only or by the people of Israel also? I've noticed, and heard people speak about before, the fact that the kings of Judah did what was right in God's eyes except that they left the high places in tact. I wonder why none of the kings took them down (until you get to Hezekiah). It seems that there was always something to keep them from totally giving themselves over to God. I wonder if there are any "high places" in my life that need to be broken down and ground to dust? I'm sure there are, but will my pride allow them to be destroyed? It is amazing to see how God preserved a line for David's house. Even though they were not totally commited to God, he kept his covenant with them. Do we have a better covenant? The scripture says that we do. How awesome is God to provide for our salvation when we are the most worthless and vile creatures under heaven? How humbling it is to realize how wretched we are and how holy God is and how he rescued us from his wrath by sacrificing his only Son to save us? If that doesn't make you want to cry out to God in praise and thanksgiving, I don't know that anything will. God bless . |
