| Site Maintenance... |
|
| |
I don't know if any of you have had to deal with the "site maintenance" on the MyChurch website the last couple of days, but I have. Tuesday, I couldn't even log onto the site, and finally gave up...and Wednesday it was touch and go...sometimes I could access it, sometimes I couldn't. I don't know exactly what all they did, but I found myself getting frustrated by the sign that kept popping up with the dreaded words "site maintenance". I know that there are times that things have to have maintenance, and it is just one of many things that we have to just grin and bear.
It got me thinking though, how we all need to have a little "site maintenance" done to ourselves from time to time. I don't mean cosmetically, although some people do that, anywhere from plastic surgery to a hair cut. But I mean mentally, and spiritually. If we just keep going and going, like the energizer bunny, we might be able to keep functioning, but it might not be at the peak of our ability. We will start to wear down and become frazzled, and our "site" will start looking a little worse for wear.
I try, each day, to spend time with God alone. My quiet time with Him can be prayer, bible study, singing, or all three. I often find myself talking to Him throughout the day as if He were right there in the room with me physically. Knowing that He is there looking over my shoulder, makes me more aware of the things I should (and shouldn't) be doing. I keep that constant force as a guide to get me through each day.
I also try to take time each day to spend just on me. Now, I realize this is a "me" society, and that can be a bad thing, but I do think that in order to be of any service to others, we have to take care of ourselves first. I do something that I enjoy, like reading a good book, or a craft project, or taking a nap. It makes me a happier person when I can have some "me" time, and I can therefore be of better service to others. If we only do for others, and never do for ourselves, we will burn out quickly.
It is vitally important to make sure your site has some maintenance daily. Things can quickly go bad if we neglect the site, even for a day. We have to stay walking with the Savior, and make sure He is front and center each and every day. Site maintenance can be seen a nuisance, or it can be viewed as a blessing, keeping things running as they should be, so that when some outside force causes a problem to the site, we are ready. It should only take a slight tweaking to the site, and things will be back running normally.

| Great thoughts Deb! Site maintenance is a good thing, when we have the wisdom and patience (as you do) to look to the end product, rather than the momentary inconvenience! ~mike |

Recently my husband post the following:
"Look what Joe (MyChurch.org co-founder) has posted regarding the site speed in the last few days.... "We realize the site has been sporadically slow the past few days. Cary's pulling his hair out over it and working frantically to diagnose the issue. Seems like we hit some sort of threshold on the database. Will hopefully have the issue resolved soon... thanks for your patience!" Hope this help to encourage you to keep blogging ... "
I think it expalins many things! |

Great blog Deb!
You nailed on the head exactly where I am right now. I was asking the Lord if there was something he wanted me to share in a blog. He replied by telling me that I need to get a few things settled in my mind first. Site Maintenance!
I love your ability to take everyday life situations and turn them into Spiritual Lessons.
Thank you! |

Mike, great comments. A lot can be said for looking at the end product (Heaven) rather than at the momentary inconvenience (life on earth)!
Restore, sorry to hear about the root canals. I have never had to have one of those, thank God. Remember the end result!
Jenily, thanks for sharing that with us. It does explain a lot!
KdtW, thanks, I am glad that enjoyed the blog!
Chrissy, I love this community too. We can learn so much from each other. It is truly a blessing, even though there are some bumps to deal with from time to time!
Michael, I am always on the lookout for good blogging subjects.
Jess, all relationships take a little maintenance. Our relationship with Jesus is no different!
Cheryl, I am glad you enjoyed the blog. I sometimes wonder if it is my internet connection (I still have dial up), or if everyone is having a problem.
Wes, your first blog! That means you must be new to MyChurch. Welcome! I will have to go take a look at your blog!
Doyle, Thank you.
Lara, I agree. When we seek God with our whole heart, He gives us what we need.
Gene, so are you saying that you are going bald? Pulling your hair out over site maintenance?
Rosie, I agree, the MyChurch team does a great job of making things run fairly smoothly. A star * for them.
Carolyn, it is only through the bumps that we can appreciate the smoothness! |

I have tried several days to come in here and a couple of times during that day and I just get so frustrated I give up. But I look on the bright side..Jesus had troubles and tribulations and we as human beings have our trials and tribulation because why be upset our Lord will take care of everything and the team here at MyChurch is answering to the call of our Lord for us to share as a family through this GREAT website. I just hold on tight until the glitches are worked out and then I'm back on this site. GREAT BLOG! |

cyn402002, great comments! We don't have control over the glitches that happen on the computer or in our lives, do we? We just have to remember who is in control. He has it all figured out. |
