| Would you leave the house without brushing your teeth? I pose this question to my kids when encouraging them to stay steadfast in their quiet time with God, because they like being around other people and understand the importance of something as little as brushing your teeth. Yet, I'm frequently reminded myself when I find myself in the aftermath of stuggling with the sinful nature (Romans 7). I trace back to what went wrong. How was I even tempted? It happens honestly enough. Some sort of crisis, perhaps several at a time or just a bunch of stuff is going on and my quiet time is cut short; and getting deeper into God's Word is put off. We rationalize that we can "catchup" (yes, ketchup is spelt this way) in our reading. Bam! Then days later we wonder why the sinful nature has a hold on us. It's on those in-between days that we become vulnerable. Lord help us stay steadfast in Your Word, and in keeping of those good habits that prevent the bad habits, and keep us close to You. Jesus said that it was a daily thing. |
