Have you ever wondered what goes on at a B.E.S.T. Robotics competition? It's a national competition where middle and high schools form a robotics team. Each school/team is giving the same equipment and the same requirement -- to build a robot that can complete the specified task. They then compete in a local competition to see who's robot can complete the task the best. Each school also must construct a team spirit booth to go along with their theme and to support their team.
Hobbs Middle School participated this year. They were new to this, and were thrilled to come in 2nd place in the local competition, so then they were able to go on to compete in the next level at Auburn University. There were schools from Connecticut to Texas and everywhere in between.
There were 48 teams competing. Hobbs did great. However, it was a heart breaker. The top 14 teams went on to the semi-finales, and Hobbs came in 15th. They did great though - considering they were new to this and also were competing against some much larger schools and high schools as well.
We had a great time watching. I just thought I'd share a little video clip of what the competition was like. This was just one of 92 matches.
