Is the harvest really plentiful and the laborers few?
Yesterday my wife Melanie and I went to the Windemere apartment complex in Brandon, FL about 1 mile from our church, Covenant Community Fellowship to preach the gospel. We had an opportunity to follow up with Marizta and Sean who gave their life to the Lord about a month ago and encouraged them to remain true to the faith(Acts 14:22). The most exciting part of our day was meeting a hispanic mama named Candy and her 14 yr. old daughter, Dayanara. We started our conversation using the Citytaker Religious Questionaire which is a tool that even the new christian can use that brings initial walls down and all you have to do is read.
We quickly realized that we had a language barrier with Candy so we asked her if anyone else in the family could interpret for us. She went and got her sweet 14 year old daughter who would interpret the questionaire to her mom as we read it. The great thing about the questionaire is it allows the listener to participate, engages their heart, and immediately brings the walls of opposition down so they can hear the gospel. I would ask a question off the questionairre in English, Dayanara would interpret it in Spanish. It was like a mini over seas crusade right in our back yard. It was so awesome!
When Candy answered the question "If you were to stand before God and He were to ask you why should I let you into my heaven what would you say?", she answered she was trying as hard as she could and hoping it would be enough. Works! So we read to her about sin and the guilt and judgment thereof, what Jesus had done for them, and what they needed to do to receive the gift he had provided for them. As they invited us into their apartment to hold hands and pray, I asked them if they wanted to repent and make Jesus the Lord of their life, Candy said yes and I asked Dayanara, "How about you?" She said sure! So we held hands and watched this Mom and her 14 yr. old daughter get married to the Faithful Bride together. As I lead them to Jesus, I felt the gush of heaven's presence flood over me and knew that the Holy Spirit was with us seeking and saving this lost family. |
