The Bible is often referred to as God's road map for life - filled with directions for getting through life.
Map Quest has become increasingly popular as a road mapping website that gives people directions of how to get to their destination.
This weekend, I had my trip mapped (by Map Quest) from Crestview (where I was dropping off my dog for my sister-in-law to doggie sit) to Auburn, Alabama. I wasn't going to get to an interstate until Montgomery. It was all backroads Alabama to get to Montgomery.
Through some little podunk town, I obviously missed a turn and ended up lost in rednecksville. We saw sites that I never knew existed -- there was even a little country store called "The Hillbilly Mall". It was hysterical. Miles and miles of very little civilization - which at first was kind of comical to us -- but then when we all had to go to the bathroom and there was no civilization in site, it wasn't so fun anymore.
We eventually made it to Montgomery and then on to Auburn, but it was so much more stressful and took a lot longer than if we had stayed on the course Map Quest had given us.
It's just like following God's road map for us through the Bible. We start out with the best intentions to follow it, but somehow we get off course. We either get distracted by looking in the wrong direction and miss an important turn or maybe we even decide that we know a better and faster way.
We will still get to our destination, but if we follow God's road map it will be a much easier journey. He will guide us every step of the way and we'll get through the trip a lot less stressed. |
