Saw an amusing poll on Church Marketing Sucks about church greeters. 

Reminded me of a funny experience - a few months ago, my small group at the River was staffed to be Sunday morning greeters. This involved filling out nametages for people as they walked in...

I'd say about half the people actually bother to wear a nametag. Most politely refused when we asked if they wanted a nametag. "No thanks" with a smile, and they just walked right past us and into service.

So I changed the question around. Instead of "Good morning, would you like a nametag?" It was "Hi, how do you spell your name?"

How do you say no to that question!??

"Oh, hi. Well, my name is spelled J-O-S-E-P-H, but I don't usually get a nametag at church. Thank you for offering though." That's a lot harder to say than "No thanks" And the results showed... that Sunday may have been the highest percentage of nametag-wearers that The River had ever seen ;)

Good times, good times.  I really miss The River.
