33:2 Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery [and] an instrument of ten strings. 33:3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.
Ohhhhhhh, WHAT A SATURDAY NIGHT!!!!
I had a very wonderful Saturday night! I went to our annual Harp Concert. I truly love harps. They are such beautiful instruments to look at. Oh, but to hear them is absolutely breathtaking, at least to me.
One thing that made this concert special is the fact that there were THIRTEEN harps in this harp ensemble. Talk about angelic, celestial music! The house was packed, as usual. Quite a popular concert.
All of the selections were beautiful. One of my favorites is "Greensleeves (What Child Is This?)". It's just a beautiful, special melody that is perfect for the sound of harps! "Silent Night" was also beautifully done, with the harp and flute together. A couple of the songs were done with the harps, a vocalist, and a pianist. One of the songs, the vocalist sang, was "To Everything There Is A Season", which was absolutely fantastic, too.
I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to see thirteen harps in an ensemble together and to hear this beautiful music! Just had to share it!

| Not that "price" is important, but of the thirteen harps there--they ranged in price from $18,000.00 to $35,000.00. No wonder there does not seem to be a lot of people who play the harp. Earch harp was unique in the way it looked, the color of the wood, etc. The most expensive one was in the center of the stage area and was as if it was made of gold. I know it wasn't pure gold, but it was absolutely beautiful, as all of them were! Thank you for your comment, Restore. |

| Blenda, if you like harp music, you would have felt right at home during this concert. I'm sure you've heard music that just sends warmth, comfort, and joy--all at the same time--and this is exactly how this was. This was the eighth year they've had this but I only learned of it about five years ago. Thank GOD I did. I look forward to it every single year! Thanks for reading my blog and sharing your thoughts about it by leaving a comment and star. |

| I love harp music. I wanted to learn how to play one when I was younger, but never did. You don't see them a lot, that is a special talent, and people that possess it are very blessed. |

| Deb, Thank you for your star and comment! I'll bet you would have done great playing the harp! I've heard they are one of the most difficult instruments to learn to play. I can imagine it must be wonderful for a person who plays a harp to know they've mastered one of the most difficult but most beautiful instruments in the world. It was beautiful with the flute but it is also awesome alone! So, soothing! |

| Overcomer, Hi to my friend, too! Yes, I think you would have LOVED the harp concert. Such BEAUTIFUL instruments to look at as well as BEAUTIFUL to hear. Quite awesome to see that many in one place. I really love hearing them and look forward to it every year! A cousin of mine saw on the Learning Channel how a harp is made. I hope to catch that sometimes just to see how such a beautiful instrument is made. I suppose part of the high price of them that the number of strings and length of them has something to do with it being so complicated to make as well as play. I really admire someone that has the gift of playing a harp and the dedication to put the study into it. I think they would almost have to be BLESSED every time they even practice! Thanks for your comment. |

I too enjoy harp music... but thanks to you, have come to know about Harp Concerts. (13 harps at once!)
I could only imagine that... so being like you, one who enjoys research... decided to take this new awareness... and look on www.Youtube.com to see if there are any videos of harp concerts or the song Greensleeves being played on harps. Found several... (I personally know Greensleeves as a Christmas Carol with the following Lyrics... which I love
What child is this, who, lay to rest, on Mary's lap, is sleeping Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, while Shepards watch are keeping
Chorus This, this is Christ the King whom Shepards guard and angels sing Haste, Haste, to bring him laud, The babe, the son of Mary
Why lies he in such mean estate where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear; for sinners here the silent Word is pleading
Chorus This, this is Christ the King whom Shepards guard and angels sing Haste, Haste, to bring him laud, The babe, the son of Mary
So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh come, peasant, King, to own him; The King of kings salvation brings, let loving hearts enthrone Him
Chorus This, this is Christ the King whom Shepards guard and angels sing Haste, Haste, to bring him laud, The babe, the son of Mary
Kept looking and found this link where they are playing Greensleeves on various size harps with a pretty background scenery which changes as they play.
Playing A Time for Us (Theme from Romeo and Juliet) Love these Lyrics too: A time for us, some day there'll be When chains are torn by courage born of a love that's free A time when dreams so long denied can flourish As we unveil the love we now must hide A time for us, at last to see A life worthwhile for you and me And with our love, through tears and thorns We will endure as we pass surely through every storm A time for us, some day there'll be a new world A world of shining hope for you and me For you and me And with our love, through tears and thorns We will endure as we pass surely through every storm A time for us, some day there'll be a new world A world of shining hope for you and me A world of shining hope for you and me |

WHAT A WONDERFUL surprise! You know, I did not know the words to Greensleeves! I only knew I loved the song, played on a harp. It was December that the harp concert was held, so they did play beautiful music, all of them about the Saviour! (Except I think they did play Jingle Bells) Oh, it was beautiful, beautiful music.
I have dial up so it is next to impossible to listen to Youtube. However, I did wait it out to hear Greensleeves and you were right--this was GREAT! Thank you so much for the link! I do want to hear Theme from Romeo and Juliet, too, and WILL listen to it SOON! Thank you for the words and links to both songs!! Very thoughtful and welcome! Bless you!
Thank you for your star and comment! I really appreciate it! |
