WOW! What a Mess!

Well, in the Spooksam household things are out of sorts at the moment. We had some significant water damage to the ceiling and walls in our house after a problem in the roof. The roof was replaced and now it was time to get the damage repaired and painted. This week the insurance company brought in painters to do their work to make thins better. Sunday we spent the day getting things ready for them to paint. We had to move furniture that hadn't been moved in a very long time. We had to pack up toys that we forgot the kids had. By the time I went to bed Sunday, I came to 2 conclusions:
     1)there is too much junk in the house
     2)there is a whole lot of dust hiding in places we don't bother to check

It is funny how living day to day in a house blinds you to things. It isn't until you have to pack things in boxes that you realize you have accumulated too much stuff over the years. It is only as you start moving furniture that you realize how dusty your housee really is! Of course I am going somewhere with this!

We can keep things nice on the surface when the reality is things are messier than they appear.  It can be easy to walk into church with Bible in hand dressed in our Sunday best.  We give a few, "Praise the Lord brother" and we pray in a most reverential King James style.  Everyone thinks we are so spiritual.  Is that the reality?  A hypocrite is literally a "stage actor."  Are we playing the part of a "spiritual" Christian?

That Bible we carried so proudly to church - is that the only time during te week we touch it?  Those profound prayers - is that the only time during the week we pray at all?  The lips that proclaimed "Praise the Lord, brother!" - do those lips honor God the other 6 days of the week?  Do we show the same gentleness to our spouses and children that we show so freely in church?

Are we willing to pull the spiritual furniture away from the walls?  Are we willing to say, "Lord, I don't want to play the part - I want to be surrendered to you.  I don't want to look like I am close to you, I want to BE close to you.  I don't want the surface parts of my life to be yielded to your Spirit - I want ALL my life to be yielded to your Spirit."

Amen. 

I'd add that while you live in the house, you're gonna come across dust, but that doesn't mean you should wallow in it, or worse yet, pretend like you can't remove it.

 

Praying for you guys in the recuperation of the house...we're going thru the SAME thing in our bathroom - the ONLY bathroom in the house  :)

It's funny how the Lord can look at a filthy "dusty" fixer upper and instead see a brand new dwelling! :-)

I've often used a simialr analogy of cleaning out different types of sin.
1) pick up big items.
2) vacuum smaller ones
3) 'professional' carpet cleaning
4) new carpet, free of sin!
