| | Day 29 Category: Religion and Philosophy The reading for day 29 was 1Chronicles 1:1-9:44. This portion of scripture has a TON of names that I can't pronounce. Sometimes its hard to understand why certain passages of scripture exist, but this one does and needs to be read along with the others. I think the most interesting thing for me is in chapter 9 verses 22-33. Compare this section of the chapter against Psalm 84 and see if you don't come away with a better understanding of the Psalm. "I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked." Verses 22-27 give a description of the gatekeepers of the house of God. "Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you." Verse 33 of chapter 9 explains that the musicians stayed in the house of God day and night, they were exempt from every work except praising God. I don't know much about the historical duties of the gatekeepers, but it seems to me that they were to protect the house of God from attack by outside forces. How many of us would still sing "better is one day in your courts" if we thought we were going to be repulsing attacks or defending God's house? Isn't that what we say we want? To dwell in the courts of God Almighty? I don't think we really do... |
