| The Good In Casinos and Gambling????? |
|
| |
With casinos and other forms of gambling available, the population will find they probably will need to ask these questions at some point, either about themselves, a family member, or a friend. I KNOW it has affected MANY people in Louisiana and other states that that have gambling in their state.
If you have the opportunity to keep it out of your area, I suggest you read these questions below and weigh the desire to risk needing to ask these questions against any proclaimed wonderful things about having casinos or other gambling/gaming activities near you. Oh, don't forget the on-line availabiltiy of gambling, too.
I know people can always go to Las Vegas or something, but with a casino up the street--it certainly makes it easier for more and more people to "fall in the trap". These questions cover only part of the problems gambling can bring, but it's an eyeopener just to read them. These questions are from various HELP programs that have resulted from gambling addiction in their state. DO YOU REALLY WANT TO EVER NEED TO ASK THESE QUESTIONS to yourself or about someone you know or love????
****I am adding attention to this blog, written earlier by me. Today it is March 10, 2009. During these harsh days of uncertainty and unstable economic times, more and more people may be tempted to turn to gambling, as a quick fix to their problems. Please read this blog and the other one I wrote about gambling--for help for others or yourself, if you are tempted to "try" gambling.****
Twenty Questions about Gambling Addiction
Answering yes to seven or more of these questions may indicate a gambling problem.

Ask yourself the following questions:

Do you have any reason to question whether this person has filed an accurate or for that matter, any IRS return?
Has there been a change in the way this person handles money?
Has this person reordered spending priorities?
Has this person let health or life insurance lapse?
Do you have to resort to subterfuge to get money you need from this person?(i.e., overestimating some expenses, under reporting your own income, stealing from this person).
Do you suspect this person took money from you?
Is this person seeking new ways to earn extra money, have a second job or work overtime?
Is this person gambling with greater frequency?

Yahshild OUTSTANDING BLOG
OUR GOD IS NOT IN FAVOR OF THIS, It's a sin to Gamble away God's money He told us to be Good Stewards over.
WHY SHOULD WE STAY AWAY FROM GAMBLING? Proverbs 28:22 . . . A greedy person tries to get rich quick, but it only leads to poverty. Proverbs 1:19 . . . Such is the fate of all who are greedy for gain. It ends up robbing them of life. Gambling is rooted in the hope of getting rich quick, but it often ends in poverty. 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 . . . This should be your ambition: to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we commanded you before. As a result, people who are not Christians will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others to meet your financial needs. Those who work for their money will be financially independent, but those who gamble often end up in financial ruin.
PROMISE FROM GOD: Ephesians 5:5 . . . You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is really an idolater who worships the things of this world. |

| Thank you, Brother Johnny. I do hope the public will be courageous enough to speak out against something that creates so many problems in the long run. The promise of jobs, etc. does not outweigh the problems that it creates for the entire state! To view his blog about this go to Johnny's blog about the gambling issue in Kentucky, click link. Kentucky is not where I live, but I'm concerned for any state that faces this issue! Thank you for taking time to read my blog and for leaving a comment and star! |

| I have been in casinos, but don't really like them. We usually only play the nickel machines. But I can see how they would be addicting to some, and how some could lose everything. Great blog and very informative. |

| MaKelly, Thank you so much for your star and comment. I put this blog on here because of Brother Johnny's blog. It was too long to try to leave a comment on his blog so I just did one. Thanks Brother Johnny. I appreciate you, MaKelly for taking the time to read the blog and to look up all the Scripture that you did. Of course, all the Scripture is true, but your statement that gambling is rooted in the hope of getting rich quick, but it often ends in poverty--is certainly true! Many people are fooled and brag about what they won, but never will acknowledge what the spent and lost, until they declare bankrupcy or something. It's so sad. The people in those places are sitting around and look as if they are in a daze, with an empty look in their eyes (and empty pocketbooks). And, yes, according to Proverbs 1:19, as you say--they do get robbed of life with people they love, of what they did have materially, and of real joy. |

| Deb, Thank you for your star and comment. I've been to casinos, too. I know what you mean, I played the penny and nickel machines, too. Thank God it was not for me. It's true that everyone does not get addicted but so many do. The people who do get the addiction did not go the first time and think, "Well, I think I'll just go get addicted to gambling." Thank God it was not your thing, either. I appreciate your honest comment and taking time to read the blog. You are always welcome to comment on my blogs! |

| Overcomer, Thank you so much for your very interesting comment. You know, you are absolutely right in saying, “I believe the Lord tells us to be a good steward with what He places in our hands. This includes our finances. I look at the lottery/gambling as people placing their hope and trust in chances rather than in a living God. Wheather they be lost or saved, it's a trust issue. I live in a state that has a lottery and have been in line to pay for a coke and had to wait a very long time as ppl ahead of me all had lottery tickets to buy. And higher the pay-off the more they bought. And sadly most are poor looking from what they are wearing and driving. And I see it as a hope and trust issue that should belong to God.”. You are very wise in your observation and it is something people might not have thought of in this way. Thank you so much for reading my blog and for your very welcome comment. |

| It is a sad affair. Those poor in sprit fall hard to addiction. It was once said that if you had more than two drinks in a month. Your, an alcoholic. Of course that's bull. But, there are those who are spiritually dead. the spirits are in that bottle. They get filled with the spirits in the bottle which is real sad. You can not help those who don't want help. if you tell them,"Well, I could take this oil and anoint you as God wishes we Christian to do. And chances are, you'll be a new person! Well. they'll take off like a bat out of a car-wash! I belong to a VFW Post here in the Salem, Massachusetts area. I see many come in with scratch tickets and buy "Keyno" tickets by the dozen. Week in spirit. If you tell them how you feel about gambling. you look and there is a cold stare on their face. like, you wouldn't understand. If you send it underground. well, the mob will make more that way. But they have their hands full with the "Porn" industry. That may be the way the states were able to get an edge in. We can't save the world. I'm not saying give up. But send a few ideas on how to show these poor individuals just what their doing to themselves. I'd like to know!! |

| Golden 2100, Your statement, "We can't save the world. I'm not saying give up. But send a few ideas on how to show these poor individuals just what their doing to themselves. I'd like to know!!" is great. I wish we could get some comments about how to witness to people with obvious addictions or at least make them aware of the danger before they become addicted. As you probably know, most addicted people have to bottom-out before they realize it "can and did happen to them".
One thing I've tried to do for gamblers is when they brag about their winning, I try to say in a friendly, non-judgemental way, "Yes, that's right--but how much did you put in before you won that and how much after? Do you really have that much clear, in your wallet or purse, and kept it so that you came home with more than you went in with?" Of course, they don't want to talk about that. So, I don't have the answers but welcome any comments that might provide insight in ways other people did get someone to really think about what they are doing. I know addicts, especially, are defensive and seem to think another viewpoint is just trying to spoil their fun in life or rain on their parade.
Golden, I LIKE your new photo! Great shot. Thank you for your time and interesting viewpoint, which I agree with.

| Thank you, Brother Johnny. Glad we could be of some help.
I hope your efforts to bring attention to the problems gambling brings to families, communities, and the state will help officials consider something other than what they might consider easy "money". Everything comes with a price. I APPLAUD you for your effort. At least you are saying what you believe and backing it up with research.
You are welcome to leave comments at any time, too. |

| Cheryl, Thank you for taking time to read my blog and for your comment and star. Yes, Satan is the great deceiver and the deception of easy money is a huge deception, indeed!
Since Brother Johnny raised this subject, (which in turn I did a blog) I've researched some more on the subject. It's amazing how many senior citizens are drawn into the fallacy of easy money and entertainment that seems innocent enough, at first.
Then, there is the entertainment (concerts, etc.) casinos do have (that can be big name stars)-- that can start the younger people frequenting the casinos and possibly getting wound into the maze!
It's a multi-layered, complex problem--and it ends up affecting far more than the actual gambler which can be bad enough, before all the considerations are thought through. Thank you, Cheryl. |

Brother Johnny I see you left a comment on my page public profile about your effort to keep gambling out of Kentucky. I hope my viewers will read it and will visit your site. I hope the people of Kentucky will get behind this and support you and Senator David Williams.
I commend your effort and I applaud the courage of SENATOR DAVID WILLIAMS to stand up for his wisdom on the subject of gambling and for standing up for the STATE of Kentucky. Of course, this is not always popular--but I hope he is SUCCESSFUL!
I have two blogs that tell what gambling brings more of than people realize and IT IS NOT GOOD!
