| Growing Pains and Advertiser Feedback |
|
| |
We’ve had some growing pains the last few weeks. You may have seen the site running very slowly at times, and that’s due to our database creaking under its own weight. We’re reworking lots of things to address the issue, and you may have seen an improvement recently. We'll keep working to make the site faster. Thank you for your grace and patience (and prayers!)
On that note, if you're a software engineer and want to join our team, please get in touch. Or if you know of a talented, Kingdom-minded programmer, please have him or her get in touch! On a separate note, you probably noticed some new advertisers on MyChurch. We're proud to partner with Christian organizations that have relevant content for the MyChurch community - stuff that Christians might be interested in. You can always give us feedback on ads, either privately or through a comment on this blog. We would like to introduce you to one of those advertisers, and ask for some feedback on one of their campaigns - iQuestions.com. We met these nice folks at the National Outreach Convention in San Diego. They've rounded up experts in various topics, and provide "safe and trusted video answers for everyday life". We thought it was a neat concept, and their videos are professional and well-done. All the answers in their videos are "values-based". Their experts giving the answers are all believers and rooted in Christian values. They range from well-known ministry leaders like Gary Smalley giving advice on marriage, to secular leaders like Pat Gelsinger talking about getting promotions in the office. They're currently running 2 campaigns - one focusing on Relationships and the other on Parenting. The 3rd campaign (and the one we'd like your feedback on) would focus on their Intimacy category of videos - a segment of the site they're created for mature audiences to address some important issues. We've seen the original ad drafts, and the 3 questions they're proposing deal with the following topics: (1) Avoiding date rape (2) Returning to sexual intimacy after childbirth and (3) differences in desire between men and women Before we show these as ads on the site, we'd like to know your thoughts on whether these topics are important to you. And if this is content that you would like to see linked through ads on MyChurch Thanks! |

MyChurchTeam-
We appreciate you and the tool you have provided for us! I think the advertising you are providing is fine and good to know it is going through some value minded folks. Keep up the good work. I wouldn't be interested in these topics but maybe others would.

Hi MyChurchTeam,
Great work on the site maintenance/enhancements. If you can't expect GRACE from us, who can you expect it from???? :-) The iQuestions videos listed are not particularly relevant to us, but are certainly applicable to some segment of the population here.

Yes, Thank You for your wonderful service in the Kingdom! I checked out these links and I have found the information useful even if it does not pertain to me right now, who knows once I have the information that God can't use it for someone else later on down the road I am to give that advise to.
I have followed the link before and I found it so useful and encouraging. I love how they are all straight up and they do not sugar coat anything. No topic is off limits and I love that, no more will the enemy hide between "taboo" topics like rape, porn, addiction, depression, infidelity and things like these. I will recommend this site to everyone Thank You for partnering with iquestions.com it's like free counseling!
I have been going through a (what the world would call) a dark time. But I have the light of Jesus and he has truly been a lamp onto my feet check out my prayer request that God totally answered and I got so much encouragement from iquestions.com for it.

I think we should be able to have some way of indicating if we want to see those kinds of adds. If I had a checkbox that allowed me to limit "marriage topic adds", I'd have no problem with those kinds of adds. For that matter, do you limit content to teenagers? I'd like to post my testimony, but I won't if I can't keep teenagers from accessing it. They do that on myspace. They have an option on blog posts to limit readership to people 18 and over. |

| I think the topics are relevant and well handled. I thnk anything can and should be discussed that's relevant to our culture and life in general. We are real people! Go for it! Thanks for all your hard work, you're a blessing! |

Our church and members have really enjoyed being a part of mychurch. We feel it is a safe place to get to know our other members, have fun, and even our kids are able to take part. I think the ads have their place as well as the topics but I don't want our kids on the site seeing them. It is our responsibility as parents to talk to them about such subjects and we're already having a tough enough time protecting them from inappropriate ads from other websites. |

| At first glace the iQuestions looks like a good sight. And I am sure that there is some beneficial information on the site. But if you click around enough, there is a good amount of adult content. Knowing that MyChurch is for anyone who is 13 years or older, I do not feel that this site would be a good addition to our advertising. There were some pages that you had to agree that you were 18 to watch. There was one that said something disturbing and certainly not a Christian view. I would say no to this one. Shouldn't our advertising content be suitable for anyone over 13, since that is the starting age of our members? Since you asked for our opinion :) |
