| A Cry in the Wilderness: Goal Setting for '08 |
|
| |
I'm not sure if this has happened to anyone else this year, but I fell waaaaaaaaaaay off the mark of fulfilling my goals for 2007, and with my sights set on 2008, I need to revisit this topic pronto.
What's involved in goal-setting for the year? Is it thinking big? Is it writing a list of 5000 things you want to accomplish in 366 days? Is it pie in the sky? Has anyone ever accomplished everything on their lists?
The answer is: YES.
YES, I can drop 60 lbs. YES, I can build my business and set my family free financially. YES, I can win X amount of souls for Christ this year. YES, I can run the ARMY 10-miler next year. YES, I can read the Bible in its entirety 3-4 times next year. YES, I can be TOTALLY free from $40K's worth of student loan and consumer debt next year. YES, I can improve my marriage, and go on at least 4 marraige retreats with my wife.
YES!
YES!
YES I CAN!
All this can be acomplished if I so choose, on one condition.
Am I willing to do ALL that is necessary to accomplish these (and other) tasks in 2008?
A 99% effort won't yield the results I desire. Am I willing to give 100%?
Will I allow God to help me as I set out to change my world? After all, Proverbs says that MANY are the plans in my heart, but God's the one that gives the okay.
Admittedly, the thought of changing what I did in 2007 to increase the likelihood of my accomplishing my goals for 2008 are both exciting and daunting,
For 366 days, can I commit to this task? If I only live for half of those days, will I be satisfied with the effort I put forth to accomplish those? What if it's a third of those days? A twelfth?
What if I'm only granted only a 366th of those days?
John Maxwell shared the following query in one of his lessons that I was privileged to see. "How do you eat an elephant?" he asked.
The answer: "One bite at a time".
No matter what we set out to do in 2008, let's remember that no task is too daunting, no obstacle too big to overcome. There is no challenge that, win or lose, will not make you stronger in the end, and there is no height to which you cannot ascend if you decide to do so.
After all, we can do ALL things in Christ which strengthen us. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
There is an old saying that says "where there's a will, there's a way". The question is will YOU?
I pray that 2008 will be a great year for all of you.
Blessings.
