| I'll have a Blue-bush Christmas |
|
| |
Well sir I got me a new job! Yep, the good Lord has blessed me with a mobile expediter specialist position at a large shippin corporation. That’s the fancy name for it, really I just drive a delivery truck. It’s long hours but the money is good, so Kathy don’t get too upset with me bein gone so much.
But what I wanted to write about is somethin I’ve been noticin durin my long nights on the road. I now believe that there is a direct correlation between ones income and ones Christmas decoratin abilities. See some of my trips take me through some pretty wealthy areas, and them areas have the most extravagant decorations I’ve ever seen. They’ll take yer breath away if you ain’t careful. Huge plastic nativity scenes, ice-sickle lights, robotic santa clauses, it’s just amazing. After seein all the rich folks decoratin its quite a let down when I pull into my trailor park and see what my redneck brothers have come up with. For example, my neighbor had the bright idea to decorate a bush on the side of his house with neon blue lights. The man beside him thought it would be a good idea to make a Christmas hosta, and a little further down the road theres a fella that decide to string up some empty beer cans into what appears to be a wreathe… but I ain’t real sure what it’s supposed to be.
Now the funny thing is that before I got this new job I don’t ever remember noticin how ugly my neighbors decorations were. In fact me and Kathy used to have a tradition of drivin around the neighborhood admiring the decorations. But last week when Kathy asked me if I wanted to do it this year, I turned her down because after seein how the rich folks decorate, thangs just didn’t seem the same.
But then thangs changed yesterday. One of my deliveries required me to actually stop at one of the rich folks house. This dude had really gone all out on his decorations. I could see the glow from his yard a mile away, and when I pulled up, all the purty decorations made me feel like I was in a dream! I couldn’t wait to meet this guy cause if he took that much time to decorate his yard he must really have a lot of Christmas spirit. Boy was I wrong. The same man that decorated that yard was one of the biggest jerks I’ve ever met. He took one look at me and my mullet and treated me like dirt.
As I pulled out of his yard, I about started to cry because he had been so rude to me. I prayed, “Lord please help me, I just don’t understand how somebody so ugly could make something so purty.
The Lord spoke back to me, “BillyRay, Christmas isn’t about decorations that people put up, it’s about the people that put up the decorations."
“Lord, that’s too deep for a redneck like me to comprehend”, I said.
The Lord spoke back to me and said, “BillyRay, I could give you all the money in the world to buy the most extravagant decorations possible, but that money won’t buy you happiness. True Christmas joy comes from the heart.”
I said, “Lord you’re right, thanks fixin me up again.”
I got back on the highway and started drivin to my next stop. I glanced down at the clock and saw that it was 7pm and I knew what I had to do. I made a u-turn and headed back to my trailor park. I parked in the drive way, ran inside and found Kathy in the kitchen washin dishes.
“What are you doin home so early?” She asked.
I looked in her eyes and said, “Come on baby we got some decorations to look at, get the kids ready while I warm up the truck.”
My neighbors' ugly decorations hain’t never looked so good!
So I just want to remind all of y’all this Christmas to slow down and remember what Christmas is really all about. It ain’t the decorations or the presents. It’s about spending time with yer family, friends, and the people that love you. That’s the real joy of Christmas. God Bless BillyRay |

| Hey BillyRay, did ya happen to notice Willies nativity scene; complete with Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, and a plastic Elvis? I started to fall out! Then I noticed his dog layin beside the manger asleep and I thought "man, does he got that dog trained or what." |
|
|
| By the way, thanks for not naming the feller who has the blue lights on the bush... I... I mean he probably might get embarrased. |
|
|
| Yeah I seen it. Kathy took a picture of me and the kids beside it. |

Billy Ray, I think I was one of the first people to read (& star) your blue-bush blog, b/c I don't recall seeing Rich's comment about Willies' nativity scene. I second his call for you to post a pic, I've gotta see it!!

Hey Billy Ray,
Praise the Lord! I did at least put up a tree this year. The question I always have when "having to pass through" a well "Christmasy" lighted area is this:
"WHAT NUT IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD WANT THE LIGHT BILL FOR ALL OF THIS NONSENSE???".... I mean sheesh already. This year the week before Christmas my car broke down. All my check was gone - towards the car. With my son being home from the Army I wanted it to be sooo special. But... once again - the money wasnt there. so, once again my sons went to their dads house. My son (from the ARmy) said that he actually couldnt even take gifts back to the base. That what he wanted was to spend time with family and eat lots of food! Im glad he said that but deep down I just wanted to surprise him with some good stuff like maybe getting him a good foot massage or something just "special - just for him" ... kinda thing. I am thankful that my two boys are having this time to be together before my son goes back to the Army. Thank you for this blog. It really put cheer back into my day. Amen and remember to pray for those rude "empty hearted" men ... remember its the joy of the Lord Billy Ray that is our strength. You are full of Gods joy - they sense your strength - and sadly they know you see their weakness. (No Christmas light can cover that) - no matter how many there are. |

I second Ms. Wendee:
"Amen and remember to pray for those rude "empty hearted" men ... remember its the joy of the Lord Billy Ray that is our strength. You are full of Gods joy - they sense your strength - and sadly they know you see their weakness. (No Christmas light can cover that) - no matter how many there are."
I would love to see that pic! Blessings! |

Thank you!
I have had a really rough year. Lost 3 grandparents and a best friend. I wasn't really in the mood to decorate this year. Got up a tree, with lights and 7 ornaments... that's it.
But the whole time I just kept thinking, "I can't wait to go to Church on Christmas." and "I can't wait to see my friends."
Thanks for putting it all in perspective.
Kelly :) |

yep- I'd be a hum-bugger if I didn't have all these here yungins underfoot showin me the real meaning in life.... and in Celebration of the Christ child with them, through their eyes. It all seems nonsense to me... and the very idea of an unleashed dog near a newborn.... now that is some artistic licence with the Nativity scene I can't abide... see, even though my maiden name was CHRISTMAS I'd have no Christmas spirit at all if it weren't for Christ himself, and my sweet babies. Lord! let me not be lit and hollow, as some do in fake celebration of you-but Lord, also let me not be full of you and yet not shine Thanks for the good read! |

God bless you buddy. This is the first blog I read after setting up my profile on my church and I know I've done the right thing. For 10 years my wife and I have done Christmas cash only, no credit, no borrowing no stress. During the hard years it means small or no gifts, during the good years a little spoiling, but the focus stays on Christ and Family coming over to spend time and share a meal.
ps-We've had the same decorations for years. A live tree. Some white lights, ornaments our kids made and christmas cards from freinds. It beautiful to us.
Happy New year! |

God truly has visited you and I think you did hear Him. You got the message that He sent to you.Christmas,& Easter are about God's sacrifice He made for you and I .It's not about the gifts or the colored eggs, and not about a rabbit for sure. It is about a Baby Jesus whom God sent down to save the world or better way to say it is , To save man kind. So , Jesus willingly came here to be born and very importionly to die for you and all the people in this world. Thank you for this message, even if I did just find it. The message did bless me and made me smile. The smile was for you in that I was happy to read what you said. Thanks agin Your friend in Christ Robert Olson |
