Friends
We all struggle with friends and wanting to be liked and lovbeed and accepted. What is a friend, and what does it look like to be a freind? I'm sure we could all go around and come up with different answers to that question, but heres some of what I look for in a firend.
I would hope a friend genuinly would want to know me for who I am. I want my freinds to know me well enough that they know how I'm feeling even when I don't say anything, I would hope that a friend cares about me enough to tell me when I'm being stupid, or when I'm wrong, or when i'm doing something that's not right (because a real friend would want to be told so they could change). I want my friends to be ale to come to me about anything, and to be able for me to go to them about anything. I would want my friends to stand up for me even when I'm not present with them. I know there will never be a perfect frined because we are all human, but I don't want to use that as an excuse not to try my hardest to be that friend to others.
I guess the best way to get those friends is to be that friend to others, not to discriminate or judge by appearane, to genuinly spend some time with them, and to listen first and speak second.
Something my mom said on the subject of getting friends; "people like to talk about themselves, when you meet someone or you want to make a friend, it's best to start out asking them about themselves and then just to listen with genuine interest"
12:9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. my other favorite translation of this goes, "love must be sincere, hate what is evil, cling to what is good" NIV |
