We have a few people in our church who do sign language for some of the deaf people that belong to our church.  They have even had a group to stand up in front of the church and sign while a song is being played.  It is fascinating to watch.

Thank you for your star and comment, MaKelly. Yes, it is awesome that this language is available for people who are deaf or profoundly hard of hearing and those who communicate with them. Communication is such an important element in interaction with others! I have family members that are quite skilled in signing and it's amazing how rapidly those who learn it can sign what they want to say!!! The movie about Helen Keller truly points out how frustrating it is for a deaf person and how wonderful it is to be able to communicate. Thank God the language was developed and that it is understood all over the world!

Thank you Deb, for your star and comment. I always feel good about a church that tries to meed special needs of people. Deaf/HOH people are believers and want hear the message and songs as well as fellowship but it is mighty frustrating to not be able to hear the message or the songs. Sign language is a wonderful way to provide the means of being able to be a part of the message and the songs!

For some reason I can´t see the picture of the ISL. We are learning Mexican sign here in Mexico and I was not aware there was an international sign language. Can you give me a website for those signs.  Here in Mexico they use Mexican sign langauge and while the Spanish alphabet in written language is the same as English (but a few extra letters) the Spanish alphabet has some variances.  Also, the sign language here is not the same as ASL.

Thank you for your interest in sign language and for reading my blog.  I think the photo should show now.

Thanks for sharing the information about the Mexican sign language.  I suppose since there are differences in the languages, that's why the International Sign Language could be useful.

Thanks for taking time to read my blog and for leaving a comment.
