Hmmm...I guess I'd have to ask what you mean by argue.
There are a lot of people with a lot of different interpretations of Scripture, and while some of these differences may be superficial, some of them are major. To suggest that we shouldn't challenge and/or debate Scripture is absurd...to a point. Obviously God doesn't want us to go around hitting each other over the head with the Bible, but neither do I believe that He wants us to look the other way when a brother or sister is clearly interpreting, spreading, and living Scripture incorrectly.
Now as far as actual arguing, well, I guess that comes down to your means of debate, along with those of your counterpart. I certainly wouldn't promote it, but there are times when arguements are necessary.
I do like the two verses you quoted, but I have to point out that (admittedly without looking them up to get their full context) while they do say don't judge your Christian brothers and sisters, and do say to be patient in teaching others, it's quite a leap to say never, ever, argue Scripture, with anyone.
Hah! Hey, I just did it! I'm challenging/debating your post. Heh heh, I didn't mean to, but I just made my own point!
And think about it. If we aren't suppoed to argue Scripture, then what are we posting to this site for?

Bob, you missed my point. There is a difference in ARUGING and DISCUSSING. Some people on these blogs get very mean spirited.

Good post, Thomas! No one has a full and perfect view of God or of Scripture, and our views should be shared (or taught) in gentleness and love. May we all hear!

Agreed and Amen! as the counter I am inclined to say that the Spirit gives wisdom in the measure that serves his purpose so to argue for the sake of teaching when theres but one teacher is pointless to the reason we are each here. And it was to the ones who knew so much(so they thought) that Jesus did indeed put them in thier place,as the father did with Job. THINKING YOU KNOW TO MUCH,AND TO TAKE ON THE JOB OF TEACHING IS NOT FOR ALL! I care not for it as it is not everyones calling ,yet the ones who do, so seem to have alot of religion over the truth. So therefore for man to teach another man. There can be NO knowledge of our Father in that person and then he is just taught to think as the teacher and not the aheeeemmm correct way, just yours. What ever you believe is true to your walk with the Lord, so to try to teach is to do nothing but argue. MY WAY IS NOT YOUR WAY SO NOW WHAT? Even the 12 disscused the way of the word and had differant ideas on alot of subjects. it is not but through the grace of jesus that we are saved. Who gives a hoot about all the other trimmings? Show me a Christmas tree in the bible, yet how many have one in there home?Don't do as I do do as I say? Sure, Please teach me with the two faces of man when he puts the Holy Spirit within to do that.If it don't feel rigth it usally isnt.everyone calls others cults and finds the one true church that thinks like they do. That does not make the church right, just them feeling so. Believe that Jesus is your Lord and master, died and rose again and forget what was in the old, it is dead as are all the rules there by MAN! Trust in the new period, with the knowledge he gives you Gonna say "Well the preacher taught me wrong so give me a break Lord"?. When the Lord gave you the teacher and jesus told his followers of that teacher "rememberer" himself?

Thomas,
Ah, I got you. Didn't realize you were specifically zeroing in on arguing and not generalizing. For the record, I agree with you completely. While it can be tempting to argue Scripture (and far too easy on message boards such as this), we do have to remember that it is wiser to discuss differences in opinion within a collaborative and encouraging manner instead.
