If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a million times, “Why don’t they just talk to one another in person, or give them a phone call?” So many people don’t understand today’s new culture. Honestly…I’m still trying my best to understand it all.
Social networking has dramatically changed my world in the last year. Here’s just a few ways I’m a part of social networking:
- I joined Flickr in February of 2006.
- I joined LinkedIn in December of 2006.
- I started the ImageForth blog in December of 2006.
- I joined MyChurch in January of 2007.
- I joined YouTube in February of 2007.
- I joined Facebook in March of 2007.
- I joined Twitter in May of 2007.
- I joined Utterz in November of 2007.
I’ve added links to all my accounts above so that you can check them out if you want.
I guess the question is…”how has this changed my life?” Good question!
There is no doubt social networking is the latest way for people to ‘get’ and ’stay’ in touch. If we, the church, are going to continue to stay connected with what is happening in the world, we must continue to learn and adapt to an ever-changing world.
What worked yesterday, may not work tomorrow. What works tomorrow most likely will not work or be the most effective in five years. We must adapt just as our grandparents adapted from relying only on the mail to getting a telephone.
My life has changed, because the world is changing. I’m changing not to be like the world, but to make an impact while I am in it. Nothing more, nothing less.
If you’re interested in learning more about social networking and it’s impact, I’d suggest subscribing to Chris Brogan’s blog. He’s dedicating 100 posts to how social networking is impacting the world and how and why you need to be a part of this revolution.
Thanks to an old friend Troy Turner for hooking me up with Chris. Troy and I went to High School and College together. We lost touch with each other for about 20 years.
I reconnected with Troy through Facebook. We stay in touch through Twitter daily. Just another cool reason why I like social networking!
