| Day 32 |

| |
| | The reading for day 32 was 2Chronicles 8:1-23:21. In chapter 9 the queen of Sheba visits Solomon and, after seeing everything that God had done for him, she says "Praise be to the Lord you God, who has delighted in you and placed you on his throne as king to rule for the Lord your God. Because of the love of your God for Israel and his desire to uphold them forever, he has made you king over them, to maintain justice and righteousness." What are the kings primary responsibilities? To maintain justice and righteousness. I wish our leaders used this as a model . In chapter 12 verse 14 the scripture says, speaking of Rehoboam, "He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the Lord." You can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the only time that something like that is said of one of the kings in that way. There are several "and he did evil in the eyes of the Lord", but why is this one different, and how well does that describe why we end up sinning? May our hearts be set on seeking the Lord! In chapter 23 we see the gatekeepers again. They are defending the heir to throne in the temple, "The Levites are to staion themselves around the king, each man with his weapons in hand. Anyone who enters the temple must be put to death. Stay close to the king wherever he goes." Then later "He also stationed doorkeepers at the gates of the Lord's temple so that no one who was in any way unclean might enter." Oh that God would raise up gatekeepers for His house today! |
