A Secret Place (Evening Thoughts for 12/30/07)
|

Good evening my friends. Many of you know that lately I have been trying to write a thought or two a day. Looking back, I just want to thank God it has gotten a good start; however there is something that He has been putting on my heart lately. This I want to share with you tonight for it has been really tugging at me lately and was confirmed today.
Today at church, my good friend Sherman preached a message about preparing a secret place for God. He used the story of the Shunamite woman in 2 Kings Chapter 4. I would explain the story, but I do not want to lose focus of what is on my heart.
I sometimes take notes. Instead of traditional note-taking (scriptures, quotes from the speaker, etc.); I decided to only ask questions in my notes. So here goes:
1) What place does God have in your life? 2) Have you prepared a secret place for God? 3) How do you treat the presence of God in your life? 4) Do you give God your best or something that has been used up? 5) Have you been called to stand before God? 6) Are you able to sit and wait for God? 7) Are you able to rest in the presence of God? 8) What do you do when the thing God has given to you has died? 9) Is your secret place always open to God?
Lately, God has been showing me that I need to prepare a "secret" place for Him in my life. This is a place where I can get alone with Him. I look back at my life, and I know that He has been telling me this for a long time; however I know that I will never be allowed to step a foot into my destiny until I do what He has told me to do. Many people think that just because they say that they are Christians that they will enter into the promise land. Please read the below words of Christ: 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
So with that being said, I know that I must do what God has told me to do. I must prepare my life for God. I must allow the Holy Spirit to sanctify my heart and thoughts. I must find myself at the cross of Christ everyday, remembering what He has done not only for me, but for all of humanity. It is a place where I can talk to God, and He will talk to me. An intimate place. A secret place.
Has God called you to prepare your life for Him? To prepare a secret place for Him? A place where one can get to know Jesus personally and intimately? If so, then please do not hesitate to do what God has called you to do. For it is in this secret place that God will use His Holy Spirit to sanctify us. Or in another way to say it: God will use His Holy Spirit to smoothe out the wrinkles and clean the spots in our lives, so that we can be that bride without spot or wrinkle.
Until Next Time,

Jeremy great blog! I was reminded of the same thing recently for the new year as I read Amos, all returns to dust. I want a secret place in my heart on a moment-by-moment basis. Thanks for the reminder.
May you and your sweetie have a Happy New Year!!!

Cheryl - Yes, I believe that all Christians should have this secret place where we get alone with God. It is here where we get to "know" God and He then can "know" us.
Woman of Joy, Thanks for reading! God Bless!

I'll have to read the story to understand the "secret" concept. I've always heard this described as a quite place. Still - good stuff!

Gene,
A summary of the story is that the woman prepared a place for Elisha to rest as he passed by her house. This was a place that he could spend time with God. I see it as a secret place...this resting place....which could also be a quiet place. I hope this helps.

Every relationship needs a place of sanctuary -- whether it is the time spent in the car with our teens, as the long drive seems to break open their hearts and allow them to share the deeper things they've been considering -- or after the kids are in bed and mom and dad go somewhere to sit and share what has happened throughout the day -- or even a favorite coffee shop where friends meet to encourage each other! How much more so does our relationship with God deserve such a place? My favorite "meeting place" with Him in on our creek bank, but I also especially love early mornings while everyone else is still asleep -- and I can take my Bible and blanket to the couch and snuggle in for a good conversation. Those little rituals help prepare my heart to become the "secret place" for God. :) I'm glad He is never hindered by location! :)
