Is there really a place called hell where there is weeping, gnashing of teeth, worms that do not die,etc....?
We have been talking about 1st Base in our evangelistic efforts using the 4 Bases as a grid for our message! We spoke much about sin and how and why to share on it and we finished our last blog with the guilty verdict all have before the Lord prior to salvation. I would like to briefly share about The Judgement to come and how and why to share it with your lost listeners.(this is not going to be a theological message on hell.)
It is one thing to know you have broken the law, another to know you are guilty, but a whole other thing to understand there is a punishment to pay! Many of our biblical examples found place for the message of Hell in their preaching. Listen to what the Apostle Paul said to Felix.
24:25 And as he argued about justice and self-control and future judgment, Felix was alarmed and said, "Go away for the present; when I have an opportunity I will summon you." Let me say this up front. I don't tell people they are going to hell. I warn people that there is a future judgment and that unrepentant sinners will face the Lake of Fire!
20:15 and if any one's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
The conversation goes like this. So Bob, by your own admission you are a lying, thieving, adulterer, and that is only a few of the commandments and you have to stand before God on judgment day. Do you think you'll be innocent or guilty? (Guilty) So do you think you would go to heaven or hell? (Some say heaven and I share the court room parable from my blog on Innocent or Guilty)(Many say I guess I would go to hell) Does that concern you? (Yes) It should. The Bible says hell is a place of everlasting torment, a place of utter darkness, where the fire never goes out! You don't want to go to hell do you? (No) God doesn't want you to go to hell either! (Then thank God it's on to 2nd Base-Jesus!)
Do you preach to sinners like Paul about the Judgment to come?

Jeff - Good blog. At first I thought that you were going to say that there is no place as hell, for some in the world have stated that. I do believe that we should not judge people because Christ did not judge them while He was in the world. However, I believe that we must treat sin as a disease that leads towards death and eternity without God. We should go to sinners to preach Christ...we can't save them..but He can. We should preach to them as if today is our last day or thier last day....with everything we are and everything we have. ~Jeremy |

Good view point. I was witnessing to some JW's the other day who told me that it wasn't a literal place and God is just too loving for that, before I gave them a peace of my mind. People need to be aware of decisions... By the way, Happy Birthday! |

| I wish I had a good reply to folks in the Anonomous fellowships that say Religion is for people who don't want to go to hell, and Spirituality is for people who've already been there. |

Thanks for the blog brother. I think we need to preach that there will be judgement. However I am a bit reluctant to take the words of revelation literally seeing as it is a book that contains a lot of imagery and picture language. But having said this there is indeed a hell. But I see hell foremost as a place absent from the presence of God, and without God it contains nothing that is good that we so often take for granted. Whereas heaven is a place where we can be in total unity with our God and never have to experience evil or suffering again. Thats how I would preach it. Grace be with you. |
