| Best thing in 2007? |

God has given us the gift as Father Mark said of another trip around the sun ... I like to look back on the year that has passed and invariably find some surprise blessing that occurred. What was yours? When I asked this of a friend of mine, she mentioned the St. Augustine Knitters. When a friend of ours had a baby, several of us put our hands together to make a gift for her. We'd all been needleworkers but it had never occurred to any of us that we could work together and make something. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to make more projects as fundraisers and maybe just as gifts to people who might need a blanket or a hat. When I read this blog from elsewhere in the country, it reminded me of our experience. A group of church women knitting together seems so ordinary but there is so much joy in it. There was so much more to this than just the end product. There is the joy of working together and recognizing the value of the work of our own hands. (One woman in our parish is a professional designer. She not only joined the group and contributed her expertise, but also contributed materials and the use of her studio!!!) Yes, Maureen, I agree St. Augustine Knitters is one of the best things of 2007 and I hope maybe someone reading this will want to join us! |
