| God's New Year |

I want to wish all of you, my good friends in Christ, a happy new year. "This is the day the Lord has made! Rejoice in Him and be glad!" I am not one for making New Year's resolutions, so let me make just one suggestion.
It has been written over and over that there is more tension, more depression, and more anxiety during the Christmas/New Year season than at any other time of the year. Well, we have all gotten through it now. Bit if you are facing another year tense, depressed, or anxious allow me to recommend this: help another person!
It really is as simple as that. Christ told us that He "came to serve, not to be served." Make yourself a "servant leader" this year. Volunteer, assist, help out, lend a hand, go the extra mile, love your brother! I have written on this theme before, but it can't be overstated. It is a universal cure for depression to help another human along life's way. Do more than drop a dollar in the Salvation Army kettle (but do that too!); exercise your charitable heart.
I had the opportunity to visit a retirement home the week before Christmas and I met some of the sweetest souls there I have ever known. Wonderful elderly people who did a lot more to cheer me up than I did them, I am sure. We played dominoes, addressed cards, drank punch, ate cookies, and sang. It was a great tonic for MY soul; I hope it was for theirs.
Christ is where you find Him, and you are more likely to find Him by doing good things than by sitting alone in your little room.
6:38 give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back."
