| I'm Making Daily Resolutions, not Yearly ones. |

Wow! Another year marked off. I think I am farther in my walk with God than I was this time last year. I now read my Bible and do devotions nearly every day. This has been something that has really increased my knowledge regarding my role in my relationship with God; my Heavenly Father. The Bible says we merely have to confess our sins and accept Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour and that is how we go from being a sinner to a saved sinner. But then what? What are our responsibilities as a saved sinner; besides the obvious of course? We become active members of a church, do nice things for people in need, give to the poor and share our blessings. But what about what is inside of us. How do we continue to grow in our knowledge of Christ? How do we gain the ability to know God and understand that He will direct us? How do we gain the ability to willingly and lovingly obey God?
46:10 Be at peace in the knowledge that I am God: I will be lifted up among the nations, I will be honoured through all the earth. Psalms 46:10 BB When we spend time in God's Word, we gradually get to know Him. In turn, we also get to know ourselves better. In fact, anyone who is "looking for themself" need only to look to getting to know the Father, and they will find themself right there. In addition, the essence of knowing God brings on the ability and desire to obey God the way we struggled to before.
I would say the two most important things I have learned over the past year is first,as I mentioned above, spending time in God's Word is so important. It is the only way to better connect with the Holy Spirit, who in turn translates for us the meaning of the Word. That gives dirrection to a path that was once a labyrinth. Second, I have discovered the importance of prayer. Not just for the sick and needy in church or from the phone tree, and not just for my food at the dinner table. Prayer is something that Jesus takes from our heart and gives to God. We are not all required to pray for everything and everyone comming and going. I have learned that I need to ask God what He wants me to pray about and I wait until the Holy Spirit puts that answer into my heart. Prayer time is so much more fullfilling when I take the time to actually connect with the Father instead of throwing out a message like an email and hoping it doesn't end up in God's spam folder.
I look forward to another year learning about God and myself, and increasing in my fellowship with Him; praising and worshipping Him continuously with a prayer and a song in my heart. |
