| Caring and Listening seminar |

I spent my morning at the Princeton Theological Seminary learning how to be a better listener. To pay better attention to the other types of communications being used when words might not tell a whole story. While this was very informative there was one exercise that really showed me the different ways communications can go wrong. We formed groups of 3 and used the preferred ways to deal with others with an observer. We took turns with which part we played in the exercise. I saw more things while being the observer of the discussion than I might not have if being part of it. I guess sometimes by trying to stay just a little outside of the issue, you can "hear" the words clearer. Listening with the mind and not the emotions might be a better way to say it. I enjoyed having this experience made available to me. Hopefully it will help me in my communcations skills in all the facets of my life. |
