To everyone:  Please state you opinion, and even comment on others opinions, but do not try to convince others of your personal beliefs.  If you feel you must go against this request keep it in private messages.

Thanks

The cross has two different meanings, depends on ones walk I suppose on how they view it:  1) Christ hanging on the cross, reminds many the sacrifice He did upon that cross; 2) The empty cross gives us the Christians HOPE in the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, that one day we too will be resurrected from earth to be with Him in our Father's kingdom forever and ever.

i have a cross necklace that i like to wear on occasion. i don't think it is right or wrong either way. you could look at it in a positive way; wearing a cross could open up ministry opportunities. we had our couches cleaned by two ladies last year and one of them had on a star of david. i was assuming she was jewish but when i asked her about it she said she was a christian and her and i were able to talk the whole time about christ and church which opened up some ministry for the other woman who was going through a really difficult time. i gave her a bunch of sermons and i know that we planted some seeds in her that day. i know that its a little different from a cross, but the idea is still there. either way i think it all comes down to the person and personal preference. but regardless of someone's opinion they shouldn't judge others because you never know how God is using them.

It's a personal choice! No one should make anyone else feel there is something wrong with or without wearing a cross. It's more important to love each other and respect each others choices on how we want to express our love for Jesus. I read a neat part in one of Max Lucado's book where he described the cross in such a beautiful way. The horizontal represents the arms of Jesus' love stretching out for us and the vertical part represents the depth of His love for us.

I know this may sound ignorant but I never really knew the point in wearing a cross. I was always under the impression that it showed your faith in God. I have a little cross that I wear because I do not have anything else. I wear it now since I started going back to church. I was just going through my jewelry box one day wishing that I had one to wear out of respect, and there it was! my little cross. I got it a few years ago and I only got it because I believe in God.

I do not believe that it has special powers, or the ability to get us "into heaven" I simply believe that it shows people around me that I believe in God and nobody can change that fact. It is kind of enlightening to see this discussion board because now I can learn a little bit about others beliefs on why we wear crosses (from a personal standpoint of course).

I was once told that we should never worship false idols or anything like that and wearing religious jewelry was a part of that but I don't believe that wearing jewelry is worshiping. I just want people to know that I love my god and I would gladly represent him anywhere no matter what.

JD sorry to be thick headed but I am not sure exactly how one would distinguish the difference between stating their opinion/commenting on the opinions of others and trying to convince someone of their belief.

For instance almost all of the above could be taken as all 3 stating your opinion, commenting on others opinions AND trying to convince others of their personal beliefs.

Deciphering what is what is really quite subjective.

That being said I too believe it is your choice, I sometimes wear one, I have one on my front door (it says " Bless This House 'as for me and my house we shall server the Lord' JOSHUA 24:15 ", and I have one in my car. For me it is a reminder for me to pick up my cross daily, simple as that.

God Bless!

SCJeffro - I was worried about the same thing.  To criticize or uphold an opinion just is a means of convincing someone else (or why post it?).  As a matter of charity, I suspect he meant to say not to raise someone else's blood pressure or write disrespectfully.

Regarding the cross jewelry, the Bible nowhere condemns it as such.  What it does condemn is the making of any graven images of God.  Perhaps this will have to fall under the Romans 14 principle:

14:5 ... Let each man be fully assured in his own mind.

In my opinion I like to wear a cross. To me in symbolizes that christ died for our sins and it serves as a reminder to me the price he payed for us! also i like to wear it because i feel as if it protects me, may not be true but I always have my cross on i rarley ever take it off.So thats my imput take care and God bless.
