Amen. The prosperity gospels corrupts a soul instead of saving it.

The life of a Christian is often not prosperous, and in fact much more difficult than a non-Christian.  If people are taught this "prosperity gospel", they will soon be disillusioned with it.

Thankyou for standing up against the prosperity gospel. For it is no gospel at all except for one of greed and selfishness. Whereas Jesus commanded us to be humble and selfless. Besides you can't love both God and money anyway. Anyone who preaches a prosperity Gospel should read their bibles in context before getting into the pulpit/stage/

When Jesus walked the earth, He did not have money, or riches, or even a place to lay His head.  He also said:
26:11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

Blessings.

Bro... thanks for asking to be my friend... do come post and intro about yourself at my church/havingenteredintoGodsRest ~ a blog for and from the body of Christ and those seeking, Others need to find out about you!  Please post this blog where led, there too... as this teaching needs to be read by many!!! (There is a blog for those with the gift of teaching and another called come let us reason together that you might want to consider posting under.)  Post whatever you are led as a comment there, please... and send your friends.

If I may offer... I have been led to stand in faith for leaders with the truth you too speak of, to rise up in His timing and accomplish His will for having sent them. Father... may Your leaders speak Your truth with humility, compassion and boldness.  The Spirit of the Lord revealed to me, once the prosperity, faith, and ego building messages taught in our present generation manifests the fruit of leanness to the soul and spirit, one caught in such a lie will experience and see the truth of

2:7 And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find [them]: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then [was it] better with me than now.

2:16 For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

and having been brought to such a spiritual place by the Spirit of God and given the gift of understanding and repentance

...................... they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

The Spirit of the Lord revealed to me such false teachings are allowed, so we can see and experience the contrast between truth and lies... darkness and light... so we can be convicted and be set free from the aspect of our old nature which needs to feed upon such lies to stay alive.   Such opportunities are choices we are given to help mature us and conform us to the image of Christ.
8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose. 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

If I may be so bold as to offer what is strongly coming to mind by way of testimony and as an example from my own walk, of what I mean by the above:

When I was first born of the Spirit in 1978... I was led to Faith Teachings, such as Name it and claim it,  greed based Prosperity/dead works type of teachings.

Shortly before this, I received a creative miracle... so I knew Father's power to heal experientially. (testimony at www.EnterIntoGodsRest.com

After hearing a sermon about claiming ones healing and standing through acting like one is healed, I decided to claim a healing I wanted, which happened to be the same healing the Pastor had received and was using as an example in his sermon.  Part of my ego heard what it wanted to hear and took it and went after the desires of it's heart.

The first healing I received was after someone suggested I ask for it, telling me how Jesus healed in the bible to show us Father's will for us. I went to the bible and read for myself and thought, of course...God made this body He can heal it... and I humbly went to Father with faith and asked in the hopes he would heal me too... telling Him I was afraid of the surgery.  I sat in His Presence praying in the spirit waiting upon Him when I realized there was a voice in my mind repeating itself... I answered it.. and thus began my ability to hear God's voice for myself. When I surrendered my will to His I was instantly healed and did not need surgery. ~ this testimony is in it's fullness is also at  www.EnterIntoGodsRest.com

Name it and claim it...  standing in faith acting like I am healed ignoring evidence to the contrary, for several months, had not worked for me ... so since I knew He heals us... I asked Father why.  As I sat before Him praying in the spirit, waiting to hear His voice ... I fell asleep... when I woke up I heard

 your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

and recognized I did not have true peace regarding claiming my healing. Then I heard Father's voice speaking something similar to this: 'The word of the Lord came to Abraham... The word of the Lord came to Isaiah... The word of the Lord came to Ezekiel, to Jeremiah. The word of the Lord did not come to you and tell you to take off your glasses and claim your healing. You cannot ride on someone else's spiritual coat tails. Put your glasses back on.'

It was then He began to give me spiritual discernment and to teach me to go to HIM first... especially for confirmation and to urge others to do the same ... He also began to expose false teachings, some through scriptures taught out of context or because they were taught traditionally for a long time before anyone questioned it or they were taught through a wrong spirit motivating them... like greed, or ambition, or......................

I was angry with Him for leading me to that gathering... and for allowing me to sit under such teachings just after I had received the Holy Spirit of Truth ... and told him so.  To which He responded similar to this: "I did so to set you free from the desire to be God.... part of your Adamic nature.  You must die to your entire old nature, what you consider to be good and bad to receive Mine in it's fullness ... that was a stronghold.... a root which I needed to lay an axe to quickly as I lay a new foundation for you.'

Father... may your intent for having me share all this... come into being.
  Thank You

Thank you Dennis for this detailed reciprocity. You have been such a blessing. Apparently, it will sure take me quite a while to get to where you are.

Dear HolySpiritWithin

I am repeatedly bewildered to see the eagerness of many modern American Churches to adapt or adopt aspects of mainstream American material culture. I am tempted at times likewise think that, Hindu Idealism is perhaps more virtuous than Christian materialism. The danger of this prosperity heresy is that we can become covetous of those who succeed in life by applying this false teaching.

Dear Prudence,

Prosperity gospels are nothing new. The promise that religious faith (as such) can take a person out of poverty is something in the records for hundreds of years and probably off-the-record for much longer. It is present in some leading figure at some time in most religions, even small ones and even ones with a tradition that otherwise is not at all like it. Its secular equivalent is found in most every political and philosophical persuasion, latching onto whatever utopian element it can and showing itself most visibly in promises during elections. The stronger the faith/ideology/philosophy/movement is, the more prone to prosperity ideology it proves to be. The form of 'prosperity gospel' that most affects the Christian Church right now is born and bred in the United States, where there are many rich people, and exported to other lands. I live in India and I am repeatedly questioned by my Hindu neighbors where they are told that , illness and poverty are not daily realities of life caused by humans and human society, but are created by the Devil to keep people from the material blessings that are at their command.

Dear Deb,

In a prosperity gospel, I am what it's all about : my needs, my wants, my wealth, my success. I me mine. The only 'blame' I have is not from my behavior, but from the act of not withdrawing from the unlimited bank account that God has given me.

Dear Ben,

Promises of prosperity have a great attraction to those in poverty, especially those who see no hope for a change in their status. That's why it is found so much in developing countries such as India.

Dear Job Anbalagan

Sorry for this delay in responding as I am just getting the feel this site I’m profoundly benefiting by it. I see how prosperity preachers use 2 Corinthians 8:9 frequently: "For you know what our Lord Jesus Christ gives freely, that though He was rich, for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich." To health- wealth prosperity preachers, they isegete this as Jesus' lack of material things somehow 'flipped' through Jesus' resurrection so that his followers would become materially wealthy. Thus, real followers of Christ have a claim on this limitless material wealth, and all they have to do is stake the claim by asking God to deliver the goods. As we know the truth of what that passage means is that the God-who-has-all came to live in our world, where we generally live most of the time without much conscious awareness of what God has given and how God cares -- that is, where we're spiritually poor. Jesus marked the beginning of the end of that. Jesus' resurrection was the coming of a Kingdom in which such things as material wealth don't matter -- not to us in the Kingdom, for all would have more of all kinds of blessings than they could ever need. There would be no idol Mammon (wealth), just God. And followers of Christ are to live Kingdom-wise right now, by not chasing prosperity, as we live our earthly lives.

In Him, Wesley

OOHHHHH Dennis...what hath God wrought in giving us all those links so we can be aware of what is going on. (I never watch pagan "Christian" TV if I can help it...with a very few notable exceptions)
Yet I believe TV is where we need to put Rev. Wesley...on a new consecrated, Indian network not at all connected with the others.
Can you imagine a megachurch consisting of members who were uncomplicated and uncompromising about self-denial, self-sacrifice, and selflessness?

It could happen under the right circumstances and if people were required to hold each other lovingly accountable in small prayer group/Bible study groups where they truly grow to care for one another's spiritual growth.  Where TRUE Christian fellowship (centered around Christ and his concerns) comes before socials and activities and dinners together..Where faith is put into practice to meet the needs of the community.

Perhaps they think the END justifies the MEANS.  For example, in order to reach and evangelize the innercity teens of Washington, D.C. (the one capital in the world with the most murders) our church submits its youth to the depressing, degrading music of hip-hop (the actions are a little prideful, but basically just athletic and repetitious...using a goodly number of brain-cells to  coordinate and remember all the moves).  Christian rap is another strange invention.
Last year I was shocked at the gross materialism our children's pastor emphasized during Vacation Bible School...contest rewards to the children who brought the most visitors to VBS of two $100 gift cards to ToysR us, a motorized scooter, a hand-held video game, a skateboard, and candy.  They decided NOT to do the missions skits live, but to just show a video clip each day of missionary kids, lost in the jungle, being worried about one with food poisoning and God supplying a native with the antidote. At the end of VBS, candy for everyone, the week's collection of Christian crafts(one a prayer journal) and extra little Christian toys and pencils and erasers from the Christian bookstore in gift bags....don't forget the tract!  Enough money was spent on things like this to feed a village for weeks. And the music was high tech with CD songs, words on screens, audio systems and mikes and spotlights blazing on the "set" which was elaborate and appealing. There were expensive snacks and crafts and games and even a Bible Study time! But I think Jesus would have thought it a bit MUCH.  I did. Oh, about 20 children said they accepted Jesus on Parents' night (maybe a few really did.) But I bet all they remember is the hoopla, candy and the attendance contest gifts and not Jesus or the daily Bible memory verses.
You aren't the only one who thinks Hindu idealism is superior to this, the sad thing being that the self-centered greed of the Americans makes it even harder to convince the Hindus that their goodness is still not good enough to satisfy God's justice. As an American I have so much sheepish explaining to do, it's easier just to work behind the scene, enabling the Indians to evangelize.
