18:18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty. 18:19 A brother offended [is harder to be won] than a strong city: and [their] contentions [are] like the bars of a castle. 18:20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; [and] with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. I find it interesting to see that in ancient times they used to cast a lot. Although we do not really know what exactly is involved in casting a lot most individuals equate it with an item(s) similar to modern day dice. The lot ended the hard feelings between two or more parties before it got past the point of no return. Maybe thats what we need today is just a set lot. In this way we would not have all the bickering, fussin and fighting that we have today. People in our communities wont be getting stabbed shot and beat down for no real good reason just because of foolishness. Just cast the lot and be done with it. Do the proverbial kiss and make up and be done with it.
How true is in in each one of our lives that when you have had a fight or misunderstanding with someone that it takes a long time to repair the damage done by our words, actions (or lack thereof) how long does it take to heal what has been damaged. these scripture verses relate this event to like to conquoring a major city or getting through bars in a castle. very tough to get through. and that our lips can be used for good or cause strife.
strange isnt it that principles given thousands of years ago are still relavent today. The sad part is if we would heed the time proved wisdom we would not be in the state we are in today.
Lets Pray, Heavenly Father I thank you for the opportunity to study Your word. I pray that we will be able to learn to implement the lesson we have learned from this divotional. Lord our words can cut like swords or show a reflection of your son Jesus Christ. Allow us ways to tame our tongues and our actions so we no longer have to deal with trying to repair what we have damaged. Lord let us show the love that is a true reflection of you as we serve you each and every day. I ask this in Jesus name amen
