Actually, I think the Scripture your husband was referring to was quite different...

2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

This is the same one I pray over my wife, Vicki, when she becomes afraid, or awakes suddenly in the night. He has not given us a spirit of fear (wickedness), but a spirit of power (God), a spirit of love (Jesus Christ), and a spirit of a sound mind (Holy Ghost).

God is so good to make sure He provides for us in every way.

Jonathan,
You're completely correct. That's what I was referencing when I prayed over her but I'm glad that the Lord showed her something completely different from His word, and in doing so showed her something that was able to speak to her in an even deeper way than I could.

I love God moments like that!

Christine;
I too have some bad dreams - it seems when I am overwhelmed and weak this is when the enemy plagues me with horrible dreams. When I get them I often am referred to those verses about 'Fear'. I think both verses apply. I cry out to God my, Abba Father and He is so full of grace to remind us that we do not have to be slaves to fear. When I wake up after a bad dream my husband will often say the Shepherds Prayer over and over to me and I find his voice very calming and most of all the verses bring me much peace. Just to know that "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." says it all. (Psalms 23)

I actually have a funny story about "bad" dreams.  One night I was asleep and in my dream I saw a tall, skinny man standing over my bed.  In my attempt to attack him, I chose my pillow as a defense weapon :)  I threw the pillow so hard at him (actually nothing) that I knocked over the lamp and broke a ceramic wedding gift.  My husband was outside taking out the trash and hears me screaming at the top of my lungs, then he hears the lamp fall and the ceramic break.  He thought for sure I was under attack, so he dodge up the steps (all steps in just two leaps!)

It was quit funny when he came in and saw me sitting up with the pillow, lamp, and ceramic basket on the floor (broken) with no one else to be found.  We still laugh and joke about the "skinny man" till this day and this was years ago.

On a more serious note, I think that bad dreams are not of the Lord.  I think it is wise for us to pray against them in the Name of Jesus.

Have a Blessed Day!

Funny story, Sue!  Dreams are realy strange and it is hard to know what they mean. I never dreamed (or never remembered any dreams) until I had a stroke in 2002. Since then I have had very vivid dreams - some wild and crazy, some scary.  Wish I knew more about why we dream...
